Credentials/Permissions needed to run Adminpal.


Using Adminpal to audit a remote workstation in a Domain Environment:
Applies to:
Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003
Requirements: You must have Domain Admin rights on your entire network in order to audit a remote workstation. No additional requirements are needed.


Using Adminpal to audit a remote workstation in a Workgroup Environment:
Applies to:
Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows 2003
Requirements: Administrative Credentials Duplicated.
Directions: 
1. Create a local Administrator account and password on all workstations within the workgroup.
2. Administrator account MUST have the same login and password.
3. On the workstation that you will run the Adminpal Client, login to the computer using the administrator account created.
4. Audit workstations normally.


Using Adminpal to audit a Windows XP remote workstation in a Workgroup Environment:
Applies to:
Windows XP
Requirements: Local Security Policy Updated; Administrative Credentials Duplicated. 
Notes: Microsoft has changed the default credentials to guest in a workgroup setting on Windows XP machines. Further information can be obtained from Microsoft.
Directions: 
1. Open your .Local Security Policy. located in the Administrative Tools in the Control Panel.
2. Expand .Local Policies., and highlight .Security Options.
3. Scroll down and double click on .Network Access: Sharing and security models for local accounts..
4. Change it to: .Classic . local users authenticate as themselves. 
5. Create a local Administrator account and password on all workstations within the workgroup.
6. Administrator account MUST have the same login and password.
7. On the workstation that you will run the Adminpal Client, login to the computer using the administrator account created.
8. Audit workstations normally.



Using Adminpal behind a Proxy Server:
Applies to: Networked environment which passes http and https (port 80 and 443) through a proxy server.
Requirements: Update proxycfg settings on Administrators workstation.
Notes: This will allow all Internet applications that normally connect directly via http(s) connections to connect through your local proxy server. 
Directions: 
1. Open up the command prompt.
2. Type "proxycfg -u", and hit enter.
3. Audit Normally.
