Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Lightpro Dome diffuser is a large, round, soft and flexible diffuser that slips over the front of compatible flash units. The inside of the dome is completely textured to make the light dispersion even more "soft" than it would be otherwise. And because of this design, it is possible to make the material more translucent, keeping the unit from losing a lot of light while actually increasing the diffusion and softness of light. The included inverted dome allows you to softly diffuse direct light with a large, soft source without creating flare on the front of your lens. This clear version is ideal for fast action, large groups and dimly lit scenes.

3 out of 5 stars Cheap versus frustration   October 15, 2008

I am torn by this product. The price is great and my photos actually come out much nicer using it BUT, it is such a thin plastic that the covers pop off the inverter and the inverter itself does not come with anything to secure it to your flash so it will slide down the flash and also make the covers pop off. If they would just make the rim a little thicker that would solve the pop off problem and make some sort of velcro strap to secure it then I think for the price it would be perfect.

4 out of 5 stars Significantly improves the light coverage evenness of 430EX   August 14, 2008

As seen in the series of test photos that I uploaded, the inverted dome diffuser works very well, particularly in a wide angle setting. The biggest surprise I uncovered during testing out this diffuser was how poorly Canon 430EX projected the light. At 18mm (equivalent to 28mm full frame), the corners are a few stops darker than middle. It gives the images a tunnel vision pattern. The unevenness gets a little better as focal length increases, but is still visible at 55mm (90mm full frame). I was equally surprised by how much this inverted dome diffuser improved the image quality. I am not sure of 580EX but I think every 430EX owner should consider a small investment like this.

There are some minor issues. The most annoying one is the difficulty to mount it when the flash is on the camera. the rectangular opening is a little out of shape, making inserting the flash head in there a frustrating process. The small curve on top of 430EX (for pulling out the built-in diffuser) complicated the matter even more. The cup is rigid. Although it is not heavy, it takes space in your camera bag.

With regard to the amber dome filter, I am not sure if I will ever use it. I can also do manual white balance in camera or with a imaging processing software.

Overall, this is a durable, functional and affordable diffuser. 430EX would be a poor flash without it.
