Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
A lens hood is one of the most important accessories for each lens you own. A lens hood provides multiple functions: it shades the lens from stray light, improving your contrast and image quality; in inclement weather, it can assist in keeping moisture or wind-blown debris off the lens; and it protects the front barrel from the inevitable impacts against walls, door frames, and other real-life obstacles.

1 out of 5 stars Horribly overpriced.   September 20, 2008

This part is over priced for its ability to actually remain mounted on a lense. Tends to slip off or sideways. Should cost about $5.

3 out of 5 stars Does its job   August 19, 2008

Pro: does what it suppose to

Con:
- thin plastic that feels flimsy (ES-71II on my 50f1.4 is far better by comparison, and cheaper as too), questionable attachment to the lens with the snap on mechanism.

But this is the only choice you got for Canon 100 f2.

3 out of 5 stars 85mm 1.8 lens hood   July 13, 2008
I shoot in very crowded and compact areas at times using two cameras so protecting any swinging camera lens is important. Since my 85mm 1.8 prime lens didn't come with a hood (I think only L series lenses come with hoods.), I decided to buy one for it more to protect the lens and not really to prevent any flares. This hood actually snaps onto the lens instead of twisting/sliding on. Not exactly a sturdy and firm fit but as long as it does it's job in protecting the lens I'm happy.

I would only recommend this hood if you run around at locations and there's a risk of your lens hitting something by accident. If your using your 85mm prime indoors only, don't even bother.

4 out of 5 stars Good hood   May 9, 2008
I always have a hood on my lens for reasons that photography sites advise.
This hood has practical CONS:
- It feels a bit flimsy when putting on/off a lens
- It is hard to take lens cover off when the hood is on, would be pretty much impossible if you have thick fingers.
These CONS probably don't matter since if you need a hood for you Canon lens you will have to get this one. Sigma hoods are the best in my experience.

Also it doesn't take much room in your bag if you put it reversed (over the lens barrel), maybe another cm in diameter, not a big deal with my Lowe 170 bag.

5 out of 5 stars It's a lens hood- buy it if you need a lens hood   May 5, 2008
I've had this hood for a month now and it works exactly as you'd expect it to. It snaps on and off with ease and feels secure enough while attached. I read another review where someone said this fell of their lens into a lake or something but that's really not possible unless YOU don't properly attach it. It does feel a little pricey for a piece of plastic but hey- that's what it costs. If you need it, get it.
