FABULOUS BUY FOR THE PRICE! September 5, 2008 Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2B667RYFTICW NEED I SAY MORE?!?!?!!
Serves its purpose August 30, 2008 I ordered this case as an alternative to the $150 case provided by Canon (almost as much as I paid for the camera itself). For 30 bucks, it was definitely a bargain. I needed it for a trip I was taking, and didn't see the point in purchasing the more expensive version knowing I'd probably only use it once.
I have a Canon Powershot SD750. When I received the case, I did the waterproof test I had seen suggested in one of the product reviews. Worked like a charm. The information slip included with the camera seemed like it was written by a double talker; made absolutely no sense, just random words in no particular order. Didn't really matter, everything was pretty self explanatory, just seemed kinda odd.
Some specs on the camera: The case has two openings; 1) obviously where you insert the camera 2) the lens cover unscrews (I suppose to help you position the camera). The water proof function is achieved using two separate areas of velcro and a ziploc enclosure as the final water barrier. The case comes with a strap that is about two feet long from end to end.
Getting the camera in and out of the case is a challenge. Don't expect to get it right in one minute, took me about 5 minutes to get it inside and positioned correctly. Mostly because of the camera kinda sticking to the vinyl, and you can't reach your fingers into the narrow case. Once the camera is inside, it is rather difficult to press some of the buttons, especially the smaller function keys on the back. My camera has a switch on top for alternating between video and picture modes. I found it almost impossible to move the switch back and forth while in the case, so I just didn't take videos. Another small issue I ran into... the battery cover on my camera kept sticking to the vinyl and coming open while sliding the camera in, so once I got the camera inside, it wouldn't turn on. Took me a minute to realize what happened.
As far as the pictures I took, they did not come out well. It was wet and sunny, so my pictures had A LOT of glare from the sun shining on the oversized lens cover. The lens cover is WAY too big for my camera, but that's what can be expected from a "one size fits all" case. Several of my pictures had the black shadow in the corners from the lens cover, even though I had practiced using it ahead of time. Also, I couldn't use my flash because it was partially covered by the huge lens cover, and just increased the glare on my pictures (the flash reflected off the case onto my camera lens). The case was too big for my camera, which meant that even after all of my positioning, the camera would slide around inside while I was trying to take pictures.
All in all, I got what I paid for, my camera was protected from the elements, and I got about two or three good shots out of 10. For a one time use, it served its purpose. If you need to be able to take quality pics for an important occassion, buy the disposable waterproof cameras, or opt for the expensive case.
I was worried, but it worked great! July 12, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased the wp100 for my Canon SD790 at the last minute to take on my trip to Cancun. Well, I just got back, and I can honestly say that this did a great job on my snorkeling trip! The camera fit perfectly, and the black ring over the lens only showed up in a couple of pictures out of 60 or so that I took- mainly because the camera shifted slightly in the pack without me noticing. Once I made my adjustment, it was perfect! Yes, the controls are sometimes difficult to maneuver (hence 4 instead of 5 stars), especially zooming, but it doesn't take long to get used to it. This is definitely one of the best purchases I've made in awhile. It will be difficult to know when this DicaPac needs replacing, so I may not use this more than a few times before buying a new one...just to be safe. I don't want a leak to be my signal that it's time to replace. Even if it's only used 2 or 3 times, it's still a great deal and a much better alternative than buying disposable underwater cameras!
It works June 29, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
It works, and my canon sd1000 is small enough that it even floats. It makes me feel much better about taking my camera to the lake (though for the cost of the case I have to wonder if I wouldn't have been better off buying a cheap camera and putting it in a zip-lock bag). Sealing mechanism is a single zip-lock style zipper at the end of a flap. The flap gets rolled up and covered by a larger flap that closes with velcro. I would feel a little better about the case if the manufacturer had employed a double-zipper design, but the single-zipper design gets the job done. The water in most Oklahoma lakes is not clear enough to make taking underwater photos a possibility, though I think I would be comfortable taking my camera 5-10 feet under water in this waterproof case.
Protected camera perfectly, but hard to operate controls June 26, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I used the case for our recent trip to Niagara Falls. The camera was in the case for all of the attractions in and around the falls. We were standing in pouring water and the case did not leak. Several times I loaded and removed the camera from the case (to download pictures). The case held up very well.
My only complaint was that it was impossible to work the controls, e.g. change shooting mode, zoom, etc. As such, I had to keep the camera on automatic and at wide angle.
Overall, well worth the money.
