Froze my D200 August 21, 2008 OK, I've only used it once. So my opinion might change. But the first time I tried this, my D200 locked up after shooting a few frames. The only way to unlock it was to detach the MA-B. I will try it again and if I don't have any issues I will update this review. But if the MA-B is creating havoc with my camera's electonics, then it will be history.
Inexpensive And Works As Advertised August 5, 2008 One of the first accessories I needed for my new Nikon D300 was a remote release, but when I saw the price Nikon was asking for their MC-30 Remote Trigger Release, I decided to see if there were any third-party alternatives.
After a little research, I discovered the 36-inch MA-B unit on Amazon.com. The price was a fraction of what Nikon was asking, and the user reviews were favorable. Deal.
The remote functions as advertised and behaves exactly like the Nikon unit. It even allows for BULB shutter release -- handy for very long exposures (you slide the button with your thumb to lock it into the full-down position).
The only negative I can cite is it feels a bit lightweight and doesn't have the heavy tangle-free cord of the Nikon remote. On the other hand, you are saving a substantial amount of money and unless you seriously abuse it it's likely to last a very long time. Realistically, you could buy 2 having one for a spare, and you'd still be saving money.
I like mine enough that I plan to buy the 196-inch unit as well.
It do what it should do July 31, 2008 The botton has two states you can first focus (in autofocus mode in camera) and then take the shot, It's made of cheap plastic, I'm still thinking the price is higth but you couldn't find anything cheaper. It's a little dificult to put the connector in the camera. Any way it's still a good option, it does what supouse has to do...
works just fine July 30, 2008 I recently upgraded from a D80 to a D300 which I'm really happy with, however Nikon is getting a little to gready to ask sixty+ bucks for a simple shutter release. I tried this product for 1/4 the price and it works very well and feels sturdy enough to last. I've taken over 500 shots with it so far, including flash and bracketed exposure, and it focuses and shoots just like the shutter release on the camera, even feels the same. I'm completly satisfied.
Save your money and get this one June 6, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Why pay over $100 or even $70 for a simple shutter release? If you need distance from your camera, wireless capabilities, or still be able to set functions on the camera from a distance, then get a more expensive remote; it will be worth it. But if you are looking for a simple corded shutter release, save your money and get this one. Sure, it doesn't feel as sturdy as the more expensive ones; but how sturdy does a simple button have to be to make a shutter release? This one is just as good quality as the Nikon simple shutter release, but after using it several times I think it is probably better than Nikon's (I'm not a gentle person when it comes to remotes). It has worked perfect on my D300 in both my studio and travels, and fits comfortably in my hand. I use it for night shots (lots of night shots) and product studio long exposures.
