Product Description Finally a DVD suitable for storing your most precious files! The MAM Gold Archive Grade DVD is designed for applications requiring long-term storage of sensitive data, video or music files. The reflective layer is comprised of 24 karat gold, which allows maximum resistance to chemical breakdown - one of the major causes of disc failure. Along with choosing the right recording dye material and bonding agent, the long-term stability of the reflective layer is crucial. Reflective layers using your standard "silver" surface are subject to oxidation (rust) over a long period of exposure to moisture. Unlike silver jewelry, a gold ring won't rust and neither will the gold reflective layer in this disc. In optical discs, the use of gold can triple the life of a standard disc.Preliminary tests show that the MAM Gold Archive Grade DVD can last significantly longer than ordinary silver recordable DVD discs. The MAM DVD is offered as the long awaited companion to the MAM Archive Grade Gold CD-R, which has an expected lifetime of 300 years and has earned a reputation as the highest quality storage media available today.

Excellent DVD's March 17, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
These dvd's are very dependable are are great for archiving purposes. The data is supposed to last longer than the material they are made of. Leave them blank. Only label the jewel case for maximum longevity.

Excellent product.
Although rated at 8X, it is best to burn at a slower speed to reduce the number of possible errors.
These DVD disks will outlast me! No problems on a Mac. March 6, 2007 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I did a good deal of research online, looking for archival quality DVD media that would last longer than standard DVD media. From what I've read, "preliminary testing" suggests these gold archival quality DVDs will last a hundred years. By contrast, standard DVD media varies in longevity, on the order of perhaps 5-25 years, depending upon the environment and manufacturer (and the average user can't accurately predict how long a given standard DVD will last). I selected MAM-A (formerly Mitsui)'s Gold Archive DVD-R media to store my electronic medical records, where longevity is very important.
I burned 4 of these DVD-R disks using Mac OS X 10.4.8 and Apple's Disk Utility at 8x speed with no problems, on a Power Mac G5 (Quad). I use the factory DVD drive that came with the Mac. All 4 passed verification of the burn.
Thumbs Down January 3, 2007 6 out of 15 found this review helpful
The product could not be used with my rather standard setup ie MacOSX on Apple G5 with a Pioneer Burner. I was told by the vendor that I MIGHT get it to work by downloading software from the web. It turned out that the download was not a simple everyday variety but required a sophistication beyond my modest abilities. ( MY local Apple vendor and repair facility advised me not to use the download. They did not want to try it as well). The product vendor was reluctant to provide a refund. I might add that they dragged their feet for over about a two month period. Eventually they said they would provide a refund less a restocking fee. I put the issue in dispute with MC.
