Design The u620's slider design form factor allows the phone to sport a large, easy to view screen, without taking up too much real estate in your pants pocket or purse. A five-way directional button that controls most of the phone's functions and menus, and media control keys can be accessed with the phone's slider shut. Sliding the phone open reveals the u620's handsome backlit keypad. The phone's display features over 260,000 colors and crystal clear 240 x 320 resolution, perfect for V Cast Web and Mobile TV content, while a unique toolbar at the top of the display can reveal essential information, such as time, battery and signal strength, V Cast Mobile TV status, and more. The phone's 1.3-megapixel camera lens and LED flash are housed on the backside of the phone. The phone also sports hold and volume keys on the left side, while a speaker key, a camera key, and a TV control key can be found on the right side. Meanwhile, the u620's internal antenna means there's nothing to snag in your pocket, and the included TransFlash/microSD memory card allows you to supplement the phone's whopping 69 MB of internal memory with cards up to 2 GB in size. Lastly, a USB data port is provided for easy data transfer, and your favorite handsfree device can be paired with the u620 via Bluetooth for total handsfree calling.
Calling Features The u620 boasts powerful calling functions, such as an integrated speakerphone that makes it easy to converse without touching the handset--a big plus for car users. Meanwhile, speaker independent voice dialing makes it easy to call contacts by simply saying their names. No prior voice training is required and you can even speak individual digits to the phone for quick dialing of numbers you know by heart. Because the u620 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total handsfree operation. And because the device supports a 2.5mm headset jack, most wired headsets and headphones will pair perfectly with the u620. Lastly, for those times when keeping a low-profile is a must, the u620 comes complete with a discreet vibrating alert.
The u620's internal memory can hold up to 1000 contacts for quick access to email addresses and phone numbers. The phone lets you easily assign pictures as well as ringtones to your most common callers. In addition to vibrating alerts, the phone supports polyphonic ringtones, as well as recorded ringtones you make yourself. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone and more ringtones can be downloaded from Verizon's Get It Now service. The phone also supports picture and ringer caller ID to help identify your most common callers before you pick up the phone. Lastly, the u620's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911.
If desired, the onboard GPS feature can do more than give your current location to emergency personnel. The u620 is fully compatible with Verizon's VZ Navigator service, a feature that provides all the bells and whistles of an advanced navigation system on your mobile phone at a fraction of the price of other GPS devices and systems. The VZ Navigator service provides heads-up, voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions (with auto-rerouting if you miss a turn), local search of nearly fourteen million points of interest (POIs) in the United States, and detailed color maps that can be quickly panned and zoomed. With VZ Navigator, you'll know where you are, know what's around you, and know how to get there fast (additional Verizon charges apply).
Messaging, Internet, and Tools The phone's support for multimedia messaging means that text, photos, video, and audio can be sent with ease (Verizon messaging charges apply). When used in combination with the u620's built-in camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. There's also a built-in Web browser for downloads and mobile Web browsing. Verizon's optional Mobile Web 2.0 package allows you to read and send emails, exchange instant messages, and view your favorite Web content. You can check your email, trade stocks online, compare prices while shopping, access flight information, get movie listings, and find directions to the theater. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.
With support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, the u620 is fully compatible with Verizon's V Cast service. With V Cast, you can download and stream high-quality video. Need news and weather? Get the latest AccuWeather forecast delivered right to your handset, or stream CNN news headlines. ESPN sports updates, entertainment news from E!, and even Sesame Street content for the kids, are all available. V Cast also serves as a portal for enhanced 3D games, making it possible to have more fun with a new breed of realistic games. Learn more about V Cast.
Verizon's music service is another EV-DO-powered service that makes the u620 all the more desirable. With V Cast music, your phone is a music player, letting you jam out wherever you are. It's also a music store, and you can download songs instantly to your phone. Save your songs to a memory card with a capacity that's right for you. You can even pause to take a call without missing a beat. View the V Cast Music demo.
One of the greatest and innovative things about the u620 is that it is fully compatible with Verizon's new V Cast Mobile TV service. With V CAST Mobile TV, you can experience the best of network and cable television programming in full motion video and sound right on your Verizon Wireless mobile device. Turn down time into showtime. Slide open the u620, and enjoy your favorite programming, whenever, wherever. View the V Cast Mobile TV demo.
A number of handy software tools are bundled with the u620 including a voice memo recorder, a calculator, a calendar, and an alarm clock.
The u620 is chaperone capable, a feature that allows you to always know where the user is, be it a child, a baby sitter, or a teenager on her first date. You can define a zone or a specific area, such as a school or summer camp, and when your family member enters or leaves the zone with their handset, Verizon will automatically send an alert to your phone with the time and location of your family member's handset (additional charges may apply).
Imaging and Entertainment The phone's 1.3-megapixel camera features a flash, zoom options, and a host of automatic and manual camera functions that you'd expect from an advanced digital camera, such as a self-timer, multi-shot functions, white balance controls, and more. You can even choose the shutter sound to truly customize your phone. With the u620, you'll never have to worry about forgetting your digital camera again. The u620 can capture video, too.

Looks cool but.......June 13, 2008 When I saw this phone in the store, I thought that it was cool. Thats where all the good points stop.
This phones battery live is awful. I have to charge it twice a day. The signal with this phone is terrible. It always cuts out and makes a beep beep beep sound then says signal failed. I took the phone in to the verizon store and the guy upgraded the software. That didn't work. I only use the phone like 20 min. a day and like 5 or less TXTs a day. That shouldn't kill the battery like it does. Over all, this phone may look cool but it works like a piece of junk. Don't make the same mistake that I did and please don't buy this phone.
So cute.... but the battery is HORRIBLE!!April 20, 2008 I loved this phone for the first week. Great camera with different finishes (sepia, B&W); great video camera; great TV quality (not that I'd normally use this, but it's free for the first month). All of this aside, this cell phone is not going to do you any good unless you carry a charger with you everywhere you go. This past week, I've had to charge it EVERY day, and haven't even used any of the added features besides sending a few text messages.
I hate to part with this phone because I love the design, but it's not practical. I cannot keep charging it this often!
Better Than it Looks!February 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Hey. I looked around forever for a good slider for verizon. I wanted something sleek and cool yet not a chocolate so I wouldn't seem like everyone else. The front face of the phone is shiny and looks new everytime you look at it. I've used it a lot and dropped it alot with no problems and it still looks brand new! I got mine on EBay and it still works great. The mobile TV is at great quality and if you love CBS FOX NBC or MTV or more then you're in luck and can watch TV no matter where you are! You need to buy a memory disk but it's worth it. I highly recommend this phone. Everything about it was made to perfection. Cool menu, easy to use features, mobile tv, take video without length limit, great design and has a bigger screen then a chocolate. Slides a lot better too!
Lots of great features. Low battery life.December 10, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I got this phone last week as part of a "new every 2" deal with verizon. I was intrigued by the mobile tv feature, and the other specs on the phone looked fine as well. I read a few reviews on here and decided to give it a shot.
Mobile TV: Very odd programming. A small hidden antenna is required to get reception most of the time, but so far I haven't had any reception problems once the antenna is in place. About 8-10 channels. Most of the programming is not live and a lot of it is commercial free. I caught part of a live basketball game this weekend and it was on my local cbs station as well. The tv on the phone was only a few seconds behind the live cable tv broadcast. For espn they have "scorecenter" instead of sportscenter. It's a barebones version with one anchor and no commercials. For some reason they couldn't show nfl footage only the scores. But it shows some basketball and hockey highlights. It was worth watching.
The ESPN MVP application came free with the package and is a really nice feature. Lots of sports news and video clips for free and you can customize it to follow your favorite local teams.
There are lots of pay-for applications available as well such as vz navigator, ebay, wikimobile, and many more. Along comes a broad selection of games and ringtones.
V-Cast Music and music videos were pay-for, so I didn't try any. But there were some free V-cast videos I checked out. The picture wasn't as sharp as the mobile tv, but some were useful. There was an interesting selection of free youtube videos as well.
A standard headphone jack is NOT installed on the phone. So if you don't want to annoy everyone around you, you need to purchase compatible headphones or an adapter.
The biggest flaw is the extremely short battery life. I'm definately going to need to purchase a charger to bring to work and one for the car. I haven't looked into the extended battery yet, but that'll be the next stop.
As far as phone calls go, I can hear the person on the other end loud and clear. As a phone it has all the basic features you'd expect: text messaging, calendar, alarm clock, calculator, etc.
So far I'm really enjoying the phone and I'm glad I got it. I gave it a 4 out 5 because of the battery.
Battery leaves a lot to be desired...November 18, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've had this phone for about 2 months now and so I feel qualified to give my opinion. I have not used the television features and so won't comment. Having said that, briefly:
Pros: * Small * Easy to use * Nice-sized screen
Cons: * Battery life - absolutely terrible. I traded the phone in after 1 week because of it and the new U620 is exactly the same. I talk on my phone for no more than 15 minutes per day and do virtually nothing else with it except carry. If I don't charge it every single day then I can count on the fact that, after not charging it one day, I will wake up the next morning and it will be completely dead. I've checked everything - Bluetooth is off, navigation is off, etc. It's just a terrible battery I guess.
Bottom line - if you don't mind charging your phone every single day then you will love this phone.
