Amazon.com Product Description Combining an innovative slider design with an impressive set of multimedia features, the sleek Motorola RIZR V3 fits in with your fast-moving digital life with a dash of style and a full range of T-Mobile services (including MyFaves). It's packed with all the latest mobile technology, including a 2-megapixel camera (with video capture capability), stereo Bluetooth compatibility, voice-activated calling, photo caller ID, and instant messaging via Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, or ICQ. Other features include a 20 MB memory, expansion via MicroSD memory cards, and up to 3 hours of talk time. Available exclusively from T-Mobile, it communicates over GSM/GPRS and EDGE networks. This model comes in rose with a soft-touch finish, but it's also available in cosmic blue.
The sleekly designed RIZR V3 slides upward to reveal the phone's keypad. Virtually all the phones functions can be accessed via the five-way controller on the slider and function buttons on the side. |
Sliding it open reveals a surprise--an artfully abstract tattoo. |
Click this image to see a map of all the RIZR V3's function buttons. | The RIZR V3 features an ultra smooth slider, where you can push on a bar located under the screen to open the spring-loaded sliding top portion of the phone. Once slid upward, the phone's easy-to-use standard keypad is revealed--which is precision cut from a single sheet of nickel-plated copper alloy--as well as an abstract tattoo on the reverse side. A large 176 x 220 color display with 262,000 colors is included at the top of the slider. You won't have to constantly slide the phone open to access controls, thanks to most of the controls for the phones features and on-screen accessed via the five-way center button on the handset's upper slider. The RIZR V3 also includes a full range of function buttons on the side (including keys for voice commands, activating the camera, and menu selection).
Built into the phone's back is a 2-megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom and LED flash. | Hidden behind the RIZR V3's eye-catching design is a powerful digital camera that features an LED flash, an 8x zoom, brightness control, full-screen viewfinder, and a night mode. You can choose to shoot in four sizes--2 megapixel, 1.3 megapixel, 640x80 pixels, and 320x240 pixels--as well as choose from three quality settings. Other camera features include a multishot option, an adjustable exposure setting, a self-timer, six color effects, five lighting choices, and five shutter sounds (plus a silent option). In addition to still photos, the RIZR V3 can capture video clips with sound (in two resolutions--176 x 144 pixels and 128 x 96 pixels). Videos can be shot for as long as you have available memory, while videos meant for MMS messaging are capped at 6 seconds (T-Mobile messaging charges apply). The phone is capable of MPEG4 video playback when you receive a video message, or if you upload video to the phone via USB or Bluetooth. The RIZR Z3 also supports custom graphics for wallpapers so you can dress up the phone to suit your fancy. The RIZR Z3 also offers a full-featured digital audio player, compatible with MP3, AAC, AAC+, and eAAC+ (enhanced) files. Music files are stored on optional MicroSD memory cards, which can be transferred from your PC via USB or Bluetooth wireless connectivity. And because the phone supports the A2DP Bluetooth stereo profile, you can wireless stream music to compatible Bluetooth-enabled stereo headphones, enabling completely untethered music enjoyment. Instant messaging is also supported--enabling communication via Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, or ICQ--and the phone ships with a built-in email client. The RIZR also comes stock with a built-in web browser for t-zones downloads and mobile web browsing. T-Mobile's t-Zones service lets you receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. The RIZR Z3's internal phone book can hold up to six phone numbers and three addresses per entry, while the phone's picture ID system allows you to assign pictures to your most common callers. It also supports polyphonic ringtones as well as MP3 ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone. There's even an included application, MotoMixer, that lets you mix your own ringtones. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear, and it includes a vibrating alert for those times when discretion is required. Because the RIZR Z3 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total handsfree operation. And the RIZR's voice dialing feature makes calling family, friends, and business associates as easy as saying their names. Other calling features include compatibility with T-Mobile's myFaves service, which allows you to call up to five of your most common contacts--on any network, even landlines--without using any of your minutes. Learn more about myFaves. iTap text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users. With its Bluetooth or USB data capability, the phone can be easily used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs for high-speed data transfer over the supported EDGE network. A number of handy software tools are bundled with the RIZR Z3 including a voice memo recorder, a calculator with currency converter, a calendar and an alarm clock. Use the phone's Bluetooth capability to set up a wireless link with a Bluetooth accessory or connect to a computer or hand-held device to exchange and synchronize data. The phone also supports the SyncML PC synchronization standard, and it can be used with Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools PC application to manage and synchronize contacts, calendar, and other data with your PC. Vital Statistics The Motorola RIZR V3 weighs 3.9 ounces and measures 1.8 x 4.2 x 0.63 inches. Its 780 mAh lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3 hours of talk time, and up to 8 days (192 hours) of standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 GSM/GPRS/EDGE frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

it's ok, but not great April 14, 2008 I used to have an old Motorola Razor and I decided that this had a lot of new perks. Yeah, sometimes. But it's definitely not the greatest..
PROS: - it looks nice; there's that pretty design on the back when you slide it open - I'm biased here but it's MUCH faster than my last razr with mp3, good message storage, etc. - good battery life! - you can charge through your computer - easy transfer to computer - camera is surprisingly clear; obviously not great, but pretty good - OK at recording videos- sounds are compromised a bit. - when you play the music, it's really clear. pretty loud, too.
SO-SO: - it takes a while to get used to texting/typing on this phone. but you begin to get used to it and yes, I type faster than the phone can process but it's not too bad. - the music player is a little useless; I like to close my phone and listen to the music but if you set it like that, you can't "close ALL your applications when you close the phone." - pre-set games suck.
CONS: - a little bulky compared to my razr. - the alarms: I swear they didn't go off for me more than once..and I woke up late.. - sometimes, when a call goes through/I call someone, I can't hear them and they can't hear me. This gets REALLY annoying when I have to call them back. This happens at least twice a week.. - I don't know if the problem is with my service or not, but my friend has tried to call me 10 times once when I had no service and my phone didn't pick up any of the missed calls except once. I don't know what's going on. But that wasn't the first time; people have tried to call me and I never get that missed call notification..
All in all, it's an OK phone. I've had it for about 4 months and I don't love it because of the cons, but I'm pretty stuck with it. I also think I'm getting a little tired of Motorola.. maybe I'll go to Samsung or Nokia next time.
Horrible! April 10, 2008 I have had this phone for about 8 months now. And I am on my 3rd phone! I center round keys have fallen off every single phone I have had. The keys are held on by glue and they do not remain sticky enough. I have avoided leaving the phone in heat, or in my pockets, but it still somehow falls apart. TMobile has been good enough to replace the phone, but I have had enough, but I signed a two year contract, so there is nothing I can do now but wait.
I have a friend who has the blue rizr, and hers is still in great condition. Maybe it is something about the pink one.
Other than that I love this phone.
Warning:center button falls off April 9, 2008 I've had this phone for almost a year, it's been a great phone, I especially have enjoyed the camera-it takes great pictures! Only down side is the main select button (in the middle of the circle) fell off a month or so ago... soon after that, the circle arrows came unglued as well.
Doesn't charge!! March 13, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had this phone for about 3 months now. It will NOT charge! I have tried many different outlets, but for the past few weeks, the phone won't charge. When it does charge, it doesn't hold a charge. I've heard of others having this problem as well. The phone is also slow. It doesn't go where you want it to go right away. The phone is awesome for a while, but then all of these problems start happening. I wouldn't buy this phone. I am going to pay the price to get a different one. I hate it.
A Nice Phone February 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Before this phone I had a simple no camera, flip, bulky cell phone. To go from that to this was like watching the Wizard of Oz in theatres the year it came out. My friend and I were picking out our dream phones for months and this was always on the top of my list. Finally for my birthday I got it! The camera has excellent quality, the rose color isn't a baby pink and won't be easily outgrown, and the ability to connect the phone to my computer via USB awed me for months! At that time, I was unable to text because of parental units and the costs. However, for Christmas, I received the gift of the ability to text. This is where I first found my problem. When you really get good at using the numeric keypad to text, you type pretty fast. You can tell that the letters were coming to the screen a little slower than the speed at which you text. It doesn't sound like a big problem, because it isn't, but it can be somewhat irritating and it can screw you up when you type. Similarly, the buttons do have a second delay when you open up the menu and other applications. Another problem I have found is that after sliding it all the time, you start to feel the front part become a little loose; almost like a loose tooth, kinda. One thing I was kinda dissapointed with was the music player. It wouldn't recognize any itunes files, so I couldn't download any of my itunes-bought music. But music files from CDs would open and play. A problem I have been having lately is that it keeps freezing on me when I open my contacts, but it returns within a few seconds. I can't give any advice about the IM or internet programs, but I can tell you that they are there, and from just opening the T-zones, the internet is slow. So definitly do not buy this phone thinking you will use the internet. The good applications are the voice and movie recordings because you can set your personal voice recordings as a ringtone or even more specificly, which I had fun doing, set a specialized "Caitlin's calling!" ringtone for a specific contact! Recording movies on this phone is phenomenal because you can record for up to almost half of an hour! From my experience, (and I'm not the business type), but the voice recognization program seemed to work pretty well. Taking all of this into consideration, I thought the cost was a little pricey because I didn't get a discount from a 2-year contract. (I didn't want to be locked to the phone company or plan.) The signal strength usually wasn't that great, but I'm pretty sure that it was T-mobile's fault. But when it did the quality did sound pretty nice. All in all, I love this phone and it has met my needs.
