Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description
Combining an innovative slider design with an impressive set of multimedia features, the sleek Motorola RIZR V3 fits in with your fast-moving digital life with a dash of style and a full range of T-Mobile services (including MyFaves). It's packed with all the latest mobile technology, including a 2-megapixel camera (with video capture capability), stereo Bluetooth compatibility, voice-activated calling, photo caller ID, and instant messaging via Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, or ICQ. Other features include a 20 MB memory, expansion via MicroSD memory cards, and up to 3 hours of talk time. Available exclusively from T-Mobile, it communicates over GSM/GPRS and EDGE networks. This model comes in cosmic blue with a soft-touch finish, but it's also available in rose.

The sleekly designed RIZR V3 slides upward to reveal the phone's keypad. Virtually all the phones functions can be accessed via the five-way controller on the slider and function buttons on the side.

Sliding it open reveals a surprise--an artfully abstract tattoo.

Click this image to see a map of all the RIZR V3's function buttons.
The RIZR V3 features an ultra smooth slider, where you can push on a bar located under the screen to open the spring-loaded sliding top portion of the phone. Once slid upward, the phone's easy-to-use standard keypad is revealed--which is precision cut from a single sheet of nickel-plated copper alloy--as well as an abstract tattoo on the reverse side. A large 176 x 220 color display with 262,000 colors is included at the top of the slider. You won't have to constantly slide the phone open to access controls, thanks to most of the controls for the phones features and on-screen accessed via the five-way center button on the handset's upper slider. The RIZR V3 also includes a full range of function buttons on the side (including keys for voice commands, activating the camera, and menu selection).

Built into the phone's back is a 2-megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom and LED flash.
Hidden behind the RIZR V3's eye-catching design is a powerful digital camera that features an LED flash, an 8x zoom, brightness control, full-screen viewfinder, and a night mode. You can choose to shoot in four sizes--2 megapixel, 1.3 megapixel, 640x80 pixels, and 320x240 pixels--as well as choose from three quality settings. Other camera features include a multishot option, an adjustable exposure setting, a self-timer, six color effects, five lighting choices, and five shutter sounds (plus a silent option). In addition to still photos, the RIZR V3 can capture video clips with sound (in two resolutions--176 x 144 pixels and 128 x 96 pixels). Videos can be shot for as long as you have available memory, while videos meant for MMS messaging are capped at 6 seconds (T-Mobile messaging charges apply).

The phone is capable of MPEG4 video playback when you receive a video message, or if you upload video to the phone via USB or Bluetooth. The RIZR Z3 also supports custom graphics for wallpapers so you can dress up the phone to suit your fancy.

The RIZR Z3 also offers a full-featured digital audio player, compatible with MP3, AAC, AAC+, and eAAC+ (enhanced) files. Music files are stored on optional MicroSD memory cards, which can be transferred from your PC via USB or Bluetooth wireless connectivity. And because the phone supports the A2DP Bluetooth stereo profile, you can wireless stream music to compatible Bluetooth-enabled stereo headphones, enabling completely untethered music enjoyment.

Instant messaging is also supported--enabling communication via Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, or ICQ--and the phone ships with a built-in email client. The RIZR also comes stock with a built-in web browser for t-zones downloads and mobile web browsing. T-Mobile's t-Zones service lets you receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more.

The RIZR Z3's internal phone book can hold up to six phone numbers and three addresses per entry, while the phone's picture ID system allows you to assign pictures to your most common callers. It also supports polyphonic ringtones as well as MP3 ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone. There's even an included application, MotoMixer, that lets you mix your own ringtones. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear, and it includes a vibrating alert for those times when discretion is required. Because the RIZR Z3 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total handsfree operation. And the RIZR's voice dialing feature makes calling family, friends, and business associates as easy as saying their names.

Other calling features include compatibility with T-Mobile's myFaves service, which allows you to call up to five of your most common contacts--on any network, even landlines--without using any of your minutes. Learn more about myFaves.

iTap text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users. With its Bluetooth or USB data capability, the phone can be easily used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs for high-speed data transfer over the supported EDGE network.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the RIZR Z3 including a voice memo recorder, a calculator with currency converter, a calendar and an alarm clock. Use the phone's Bluetooth capability to set up a wireless link with a Bluetooth accessory or connect to a computer or hand-held device to exchange and synchronize data. The phone also supports the SyncML PC synchronization standard, and it can be used with Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools PC application to manage and synchronize contacts, calendar, and other data with your PC.

Vital Statistics
The Motorola RIZR V3 weighs 3.9 ounces and measures 1.8 x 4.2 x 0.63 inches. Its 780 mAh lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3 hours of talk time, and up to 8 days (192 hours) of standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 GSM/GPRS/EDGE frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

3 out of 5 stars A very fragile phone.   April 22, 2008
I bought this phone five months ago from T-Mobile. Overall, I think it's a so so phone.
Pros: Beautiful and looks cool.
Cons:
1. Camera quality is not as good as I had thought.
2. It makes a sound when you adjusting the ring volume, which is embarrassing if you do this during a meeting.
3. Voice dialing is funny. It doesn't associate your voice with a fixed number, but instead, it tries to pick up a name from the contact list based on your voice. The intelligence of the voice recognition is poor and it assumes your contact has an English name.
4. Very fragile. I dropped the phone from a place two feet high and it is broken. It keeps resetting and won't come up.

I will stay away from Motorola phones from now on.

4 out of 5 stars Good, Well made phone   March 3, 2008
This is a pretty cool phone, except that it sometimes looks purple.

The camera is great and you can take pics with it sideways. There are many different settings for it. The phone and the programs and stuff are pretty slow, but who cares? The music player supports many different formats, which is nice. The flash is really bright. It hurts my eyes. The speaker is pretty good. The screen could use a better resolution, though.

My screen got a bunch of tiny little pieces of dirt in it, but T-Mobile replaced it right away.

It feels indestructible, but i wouldn't go and see if that's a true statement.

I would buy it. It is a good deal.

1 out of 5 stars Do not Buy this Phone!!!   February 3, 2008
This is one of the worst phones, i have had it for a month and i have desided to upgrade already to the T-mobile Wing, it is a "dumb" phone, the music player is very slow and it is not organized alphabeticly, the batery is very bad, it will last 4 hrs if your using the music, camara is decent if there is good lighting because the light dosen't work, your pictures will come out very white if you use it, the color is better than it looks online, not much to do with this phone, i would not recommend it!!!

1 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY   January 7, 2008

I had to take a minute and review the worst Motorola phone ever. Now I have never had a phone break on me, however this phone showed its lack of durability after 2 months. First the face cracked, then I don't know how but my toddler managed to disassemble the entire face plate in under 1 min literally I turned back it was in pieces. And I still cannot put it back together. My husbands well it made it into pieces all on its own. Sometimes you were unable to hear the phone ring, connects to web and music player all on its own. All in All horrible horrible phone. Do not accept even if it is free

2 out of 5 stars Lots of features, lousy voice quality   December 10, 2007
As far as features go, this is a nice phone with a 2 MP camera, music player, removable micro SD card and ready access from a PC. However, it fails to deliver when it performs its primary function: as a phone. Its voice quality is much below average and the speaker phone sounds like someone just cranked up the earpiece a wee bit. Being on the Tmobile network makes matters worse in my area where I have marked specific areas in my house to run to to make/receive calls.
