Amazon.com Product Description The sophisticated and stunning LG Venus slider phone offers a unique combination of touchscreen and tactile keypads in a compact form factor with a stylish mirror finish. The phone features dual external screens, with the bottom screen incorporating interactive touch navigation, and the top slides open to reveal a standard numeric keypad. The Venus gives you access to V CAST Video--Verizon Wireless' multimedia service with news, sports and entertainment video clips, 3D games and more--as well as V CAST Music, which offers access to more than 2.4 million songs that can be purchased and downloaded over-the-air. Other features include a 2-megapixel camera/camcorder, MicroSD memory expansion, Bluetooth connectivity for headsets and stereo music streaming, multi-format digital music player, and optional GPS turn-by-turn navigation services. It operates on Verizon's 850/1900 CDMA frequencies, and offers fast connectivity through Verizon's EV-DO data network.
The LG Venus offers an innovative dual screen design, with the lower screen offering tactile touchscreen navigation. The leathery back adds an excellent grip. | Verizon Service Options With support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, you'll enjoy fast access to the Internet and Verizon's multimedia services (additional charges applicable), with average download speeds ranging from 400 to 700 Kbps and peak rates up to 2 Mbps. (Learn more about where EV-DO coverage is offered.) The V Cast Music service enables you to download songs instantly to your phone, or purchase music through your PC and transfer the files to your phone. If purchased from your phone, you'll receive two copies of the song: a Windows Media Audio Pro Plus format at 64Kbps stereo is sent to your phone, and a Windows Media Audio 9 format at 160Kbps stereo is sent to your account in the V CAST Music online store for downloading to your PC. V Cast Music offers nearly 2 million songs, with more being added all the time. With the V Cast Video service, you can stream or download video clips to your phone from a variety of news, entertainment, sports, and weather channels, including CNN, ABC News, E!, CBS Sports, The Weather Channel, and VH1. Getting on the Internet is easy using Verizon's Mobile Web 2.0 package, which allows you to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content on your phone. Verizon's Get It Now wireless download service is also fully compatible with this phone. This pay-per-download service features application downloads, games and productivity tools. You can also personalize your handset with ringtone downloads using the Get It Now service. With this GPS-enabled phone, you'll be able to access Verizon's VZ Navigator service (additional charges applicable) for voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions, heads-up alerts, local search of nearly 14 million points of interest in the US (such as landmarks, restaurants and ATMs), and detailed color maps. Phone Features
Nicely compact, the LG Venus measures just 0.62 inches thin and weighs a svelte 3.79 ounces. | The face of the Venus slider includes two LCD screens, with the top 2-inch screen providing a 240 x 320-pixel QVGA resolution and support for 262K colors. The lower screen (1.49 inches, 176 x 240 pixels) displays touch-sensitive navigation controls with different layouts depending on the application you're accessing--such as changing from standard soft key layout to music controls when the digital audio player is activated. LG has incorporated haptics technology--an interface that creates tactile feedback--that provides vibrating feedback in response to your finger taps when using the touchscreen. The Venus offers gently curved corners and a faux-leather covering on the back that provides a luxurious feel in the hand as well as added grip. It has a 64 MB internal memory, and it's expandable via optional MicroSD memory cards with support for up to 8 GB of storage. The digital audio player is compatible with MP3, WMA, and AAC/AAC+ music files, and you can multitask with other phone functions while continuing to play music. Other music playback functions include a variety of equalizer presets, shuffle and repeat mode, and an airplane mode that turns off the cell phone's receiver for continued playback while on a flight. This phone also provides Bluetooth version 1.2 wireless connectivity with the A2DP Bluetooth profile, which enables you to stream music to compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones or speakers. (Note that the airplane mode doesn't shut off the Bluetooth connectivity, so you can still listen to music using wireless headphones.) It also includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, dial-up networking, audio/video remote control, phone book access, serial port/object push for vCard, and basic imaging for sending/printing non-protected images to a compatible device. The 2.0-megapixel camera can capture still images in four resolutions (1600 x 1200, 1280 x 960, 640 x 480, and 320 x 240 pixels) and video in two settings (VGA 320 x 240 and QCIF 176 x 144). Other camera features include a 2x zoom, white balance settings, a variety of color effects, night mode, self timer, and three shutter sounds (with silent option). Video recording is limited to either 30 seconds for sending via MMS or up to an hour for saving to memory card. The Venus provides storage for up to 1000 contact entries, with up to 5 numbers, two email addresses per entry, and Picture ID. Support is built in for text messaging and mobile IM. When used in combination with the phone's built-in still and video camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. Other features include: - Tools: Calendar, notepad, calculator, alarm clock, stopwatch, world clock, and EZ tip calculator
- Speed Dial (95 entries + 4 pre-programmed for voicemail, #BAL, #MIN, #PMT)
- USB connectivity to your PC for file transfer as well as charging
- One-touch speakerphone
- Speaker-independent voice commands
- 21 included ringtones and compatibility with real-music ringtones

Two replacements and still no luck July 22, 2008 the venus is a pretty phone and would be awesome if it worked. As far as battery life its not that great and after spending $300 on a phone a charge should last longer than a day of minimal use. I wasn't impressed with the touch screen either. The delay was annoying and many times made it more work to use my phone than a convenience. That was nothing to the technical issues. I went through three brand new venus phones in less than thirty days. the first had a short in it somewhere, and also had a hard time getting text messages. The second the touch screen crapped out after about two weeks, and the third was dropping calls and reversing the screen images after one day. All in all, it sucked. I finally got a samsung and although its not as flashy as the LG models it works. I would never recommend an LG and i will never buy one again.
Dissappointed July 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Sure it is a nice looking phone, however, I would look to something else in the future. I don't like the fact that for many of the functions I have to slide the phone open. I bought this phone so I would not have to do that. The touch are is too small and still to slow even after trying to increase the effeciency of operation, namely turning off features such as the buzz. The camera is dissapointing. It takes to long to take the picture and by then the moment has passed. All the pictures I take with the phone I can not zoom in on. The results are a corrupted image. This occured before and after the version upgrade. The only positive is the chicks dig it but I didn't buy it for them.
Cool looking, not so durable June 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Before owning this phone, I had lots of faith in LG, and still do I guess. The problem I had is that after about 4 months, I was the touch screen cracked and I can no longer see who incoming calls are from, nor can I see any of the buttons on the touch screen. Luckily, I have memorized the positions of most of them, but I still can't see incoming calls. And even though I have an extended warranty to cover manufacturer defects, a cracked screen is not covered so I will have to pay $50 to replace the phone.
Also, the touch screen is slow to respond and gets annoying. The MP3 player is a neat feature, however it doesn't recognize the names of songs I have added, and the software crashes on my computer. The camera takes good quality pictures but takes them very slowly, and they don't always get saved to the phone. Overall, the technology is cool, but it is still in it's infancy
Bought Venus over the Voyager April 7, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I love about 90% of all of the functionality of this phone. I had about 1 day left before I could exchange this Venus for the Voyager. So I went into the Verizon and asked for the manager. He took me directly to the Voyager so we could compare apples to apples. We went through all of the features that I used on my phone and mutually agreed that the correct phone for me was the Venus.
Voyager has problems multi-tasking where the Venus had no problem with what I would be using. I had to spend way too much time opening the Voyager to access the keyboard. Time I didn't have spend opening the Venus.
Yes, there are some minor problems with the accessibility of the volume control and the lock/unlock feature, but not that serious. Slider works very well and seems very well built to avoid breakage. The camera takes very nice pictures and I love the camera controls. When you want to take a picture, you open the slider, hit camera button and the screen flips 90 degrees so that it feels and looks just like a camera.
I actually play a Verizon $6.95 WSOP Texas Hold'em game that I downloaded and there is no usage fee. I have played some tournaments and cash tables and do quite well, but this little game is an awesome challenge. The larger you set the blinds, the more difficult the players. Nice challenge.
The screen has held up very well with not one scratch. I bought a $9.95 Samsonite leather belt clip holder from WalMart and it works great. It rotates 360 degrees and the phone stays nice and safe and very easy to access without worrying about the phone falling out.
good phone - intuitive functions April 4, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
As a phone this one is pretty good. I use this phone to make calls, check emails, take and send pictures, text, and do some light web surfing (traffic, weather, sport scores). I don't use it as a music player, or watch movies, clips, etc. I have only found a few issues:
1. I hear a slight high pitched hissing sound on my end when talking on the phone. The people I am talking to can't hear it & say that I sound very clear.
2. The camera is easy to use and takes good pictures. However, the camera navigation controls are tilted so you have to rotate the camera to the side to use the camera controls (don't know why they did this).
3. The volume rocker button on the side of the phone is almost flush with the side of the phone and difficult to feel when I am on the phone & want to adjust the volume.
4. The display takes almost a full second to appear when I slide the phone open to use it. It's not too bad, but I would prefer that the display comes on immediately when I slide the phone open. This goes for all of the screens - everything takes just a little too long to open up.
5. The unlock button on the phone is towards the bottom right side of the phone, which is not where you thumb is when you normally pick up the phone. It would have been better placed towards the top of the phone so you could easily push it with your thumb.
Here's the good:
1. The touch screen is easy to use and intuitive. I have long, slightly big fingers and I have no problems with hitting buttons by mistake.
2. The phone feels solid & well built. The plastic/rubber, faux leather back is nice and feels good in the hand.
3. The phone is not too small for the buttons on the navigation array or the dial pad, and the dial pad has send, end and clear buttons (these were left off the original Chocolate slide by LG). At the same time the phone is small enough to easily fit in my front pants pocket without creating a phone shaped buldge in my pants ("Is that a phone in your pocket or are you just glad to see me??").
4. As a phone, it works very well. Strong signal, no dropped calls (I live in Seattle), and aside from the slight hiss, the calls sound good.
5. The phone is ready for all of Verizon's new stuff - VZ navigator (turns your phone into a GPS for directions, maps, nearby gas stations, restaurants, etc.), mobile web, checking your email, ESPN MVP, downloading video clips, etc, etc. I am currently using the VZ navigator - it's a nice tool if you travel a lot or do a lot of out of town driving.
6. Cool looking and touch pad controls. If you want a sexy phone and don't want the bulk of an Iphone or a voyager, this is a great option.
Overall I am very satisfied with this phone and would recommend it!
