5 out of 5 stars The best most rockin' phone ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   May 1, 2008
Why do I love this phone? Well, I'll say first that I've never taken the time to write a review about anything... but considering what this phone has survived, I felt I owed the little thing some gratitude. First off, this little guy was dropped into a toilet (don't ask how that happened) and totally submerged. I thought Oh great, there's no way it's going to work again. At first the keyboard didn't work, but in an hour it was fully operational again! Second, this phone was zapped when I tried one of those cheezy universal chargers from a manufacturer I won't name. I plugged it in and in 5 minutes it was so hot it burned my hand! The phone died for several hours. I drove to a Verizon store two cities away and had them look at it. We figured it was dead and that I needed to buy a new one, so I did. Then amazingly 2-3 hours afterwards, my little phone came back to life! This speaks to the quality of Samsung phones, and this model in particular. It's tight, meaning the buttons are nearly flush with the key pad. This didn't allow the water to get in and destroy the chip. And it must have a great chip inside to allow it to survive being zapped! I highly recommend it. Plus, you can get email at any time, which is great for people like me who can't access mail servers from work.

2 out of 5 stars Not what I expected.   April 21, 2008
I got this phone because of text messaging and hoped it had good response with its GUI because it could also play music.

The keyboard is too small and I end up hitting other keys many times. This cellphone is really bad for games because the thick section that connects the phone to the screen is right next the the arrow keys for games and its cumbersomeness causes me to loose continuously in even Pac-Man.

The speaker-phone doesn't go very loud. And the loudness that it achieves is difficult to understand. Even talking on the phone regularly, with the phone to your ear, it sounds muffled and have to ask the person to repeat themselves repeatedly.

4 out of 5 stars Great value phone except...!   April 15, 2008
This isn't a powerhouse phone, but it's also packaged for free or almost-free purchase with activation so what do you expect? However, it is clearly designed with texting in mind and because I text an average of 30 or 40 messages daily it appealed to me for having a QWERTY keyboard and a dictation feature for hands-free. The QWERTY is good, the dictation is okay, but the storage for text messages is absolutely unacceptable. Once my inbox reaches about 45 messages it is full! What gives! My last phone--a mid-grade Motorola--would store hundreds of text messages. Some of those (and we all know this) can be of sentimental value. I am seriously frustrated that I will now have to prioritize which love note is more important than another.

4 out of 5 stars If you want a full keyboard in a small phone.....this is it   April 9, 2008
I wanted a phone with a 104 key keyboard, 7.1 surround sound, HD video, GPS navigation, 20" LCD display and a battery that would charge just by being near me....and still fit in my pocket. Nobody makes one, so I got a U740 instead.

Simple fact is this is a fairly compact phone for what it does. If the keys are too small for you, get a bigger phone.

For me, the keyboard is a bit on the small side, but usable. The battery lasts me all day (couple of days if I lay off the mp3 player), camera is functional if not as good as some others (wifes RAZR is definately better), mp3 player - video - internet - all features that may be better on various other phones, but to my knowledge, not all on a phone this size and still with a qwerty keyboard.

If you want a keyboard on an average size flip phone, look at a 740. If you can handle a bigger phone then get a bigger phone.

Final note - I was worried about the dual flip open setup on this phone. After 1 year of service and several hard falls to the concreate, it still works.

1 out of 5 stars horrible   March 28, 2008

this is a horrible phone, never get it! the service is very poor, i had an Verizon lg env right next to my phone once and i fading in and out of service and the env had three bars. also, i've had to get a new one due to keyboard problems (not registering the keys when texting) and lighting of the keyboard has issues too. also the battery quality is very very poor, it lasts less than a day. even when next texting or calling when texting a lot, battery goes dead in about 15 hours. ALSO the camera is not that great. overall phone, never get samsung, ALWAYS GET LG! GET THE ENV! Also, for this review i was forced to put how many stars, so i was forced to pick 1, if it was my choice i would have picked 0 or a negative number.
