Product Description NOTE:The DEVICE WILL NOT WORK WITH any ExpressCard using the PCI Express (PCIe) portion of the ExpressCard standard. This is the majority of ExpressCards that do any other than the devices discussed above. Any real host adapter for SATA, FireWire, Ethernet, USB 2.0, etc. WILL NOT WORK WITH the EXP-USB USB 2.0 to USB 2.0 Mode ExpressCard 34 / 54 Host Adapter. The EXP-USB USB 2.0 to USB 2.0 Mode ExpressCard Adapter allows use of USB based ExpressCards with USB 2.0 equipped computers. USB mode ExpressCards include: Novatel Wireless Merlin ExpressCards (XU870, EX720, V740), storage media ExpressCards The EXP-USB USB 2.0 to USB 2.0 Mode ExpressCard 34 | 54 Host Adapter provides 5V and should provide more than enough power to ExpressCards when plugged into a 500mA USB 2.0 port. Use with 300mA USB 2.0 ports is not recommended and may not provide sufficient current for certain ExpressCard applications. Using USB 2.0 technology, the device supports high speed applications including HSDPA and HSUPA ExpressCards. The EXP-USB USB 2.0 to USB 2.0 Mode ExpressCard Host Adapter is very small and lightweight, providing excellent portability.

Failed after a week June 28, 2008 I received the usb express card adapter to use with an Asus mini laptop I just bought. Initially it performed very well. The second time I plugged it into the usb port, it shut down the computer. Tried the third time while on the phone with Asus tech support and it worked again. Next time and ever since, it has not worked. Plugged just the adapter into another Dell Inspiron laptop and got the message that an over voltage drain was detected and the port would be shut down. My guess is a short in the short wire that connects the Express card slot to the usb connector. Don't have the original packaging, so I guess it's just trash. Ordered and am now using a SIIG unit that is larger and seems more robust and hopefully will continue working. I wouldn't recommend this product based on my experience, but I see others have had no problems and are very pleased. It is more compact and easier to carry with a laptop. So you decide, but just hang onto all the packaging and stuff for a few weeks and make sure it continues to work.
Doors will open June 27, 2008 I have a verizon broadband card that works in my laptop PC and my eventual plan is to stop using my laptop as my main computer and return to a desktop. I tried plugging my V740 card into the USB adaptor and found it to work perfectly on my laptop. From this I'm sure it should work on my new refurbished quad-core with Vista desktop, when I finally get around to installing the desktop and becoming familiar with Vista. So at this point I'm real happy because my other plan was to buy a PC expresscard slot adaptor to install to the PCI slots on the mother board. This is simpler. Reason for this is that here in SC, AT&T (current wired phone provider) cannot or will not provide DSL services in my neighborhood so I'm stuck with Verizon broadband services for faster Internet service (dial-up in my neighborhood is slower than 56 kps; 14 to 48 kps, mostly at the lower end). So the Verizon broadband service via this adaptor should get me faster Internet on a desktop, until DSL arrives. However, I believe that Verizon now provides a broadband card that uses USB instead of the expresscard slot, but this was not an option when I started my broadband service so this adaptor is cheap and I believe works for what I intend which for me is easily worth the 5 stars -- I'm easily pleased.
Works great March 22, 2008 I own a Novatel ex720 express card that I was using in a laptop that I recently replaced. Unforunately, the new laptop did not have an express card slot.I was considering purchasing a new USB card when I came across this adapter. The price was right with little to lose if it did not work as hoped.
The adapter works great with no reduction in performance of the ex720 that I can detect. This was a very low cost solution to my problem.
Works w/Cradlepoint ps300 and Verizon V740 December 28, 2007 This USB adapter works perfectly w/the Novatel V740 for Verizon plugged either into my laptop or into the Cradlepoint PS300 battery-powered EVDO router. It works, its small and its cheap - perfect for me.
works great with V640 November 25, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
