Desapointed with the sound. October 2, 2008 I'm very desapointed with the sound of the Zen, es poorest that a i've heard. I thoungt the problem was the earphone, then a changed it doesn't change then I try the original earphones of the zen with my cell phone (samsung) and with this the earphone of the zen sounds great. For most of the people the zen sounds good but for someone whow knows about hi-fi zen has poor sound. I can't find the words to descrive the sound is very flat without deepness. Too bad. Too bad with the sound. I think and I hope this will be improve with update the firmaware add a large range of frecuency of the equalizer nowdays the hig frecuency cut off at 13khz for my is bad. And add like with the sound blaster live (mode of sounds like concert, hall and stuff like that). Is the only thing buy iportant for me, by the rest it has a good screen for video and photos.
Good Player, Good Price, Poor SD Integration October 1, 2008 While overall I am very happy with my Zen purchase I am disappointed in the way the Zen utilizes the SD expansion slot. It can be a bit annoying to have to access music or other files on the SD card from the "Memory Card" menu not the Music or Video menus. In short, don't plan on having any playlists that include songs from the SD card. Also, if you occasionally listen to audiobooks (as I do)you cannot use the Bookmark feature with files on the SD card. I suppose if Creative had fully integrated the SD feature nobody would buy the higher capacity Zens, they would just buy the 2GB model and add big SDHC cards. If the lack of full SD integration isn't a huge issue to you pick yourself up a Zen, it's a great player overall at a good price.
Creative Zen is a Winner September 30, 2008 Excellent product at a reasonable price. Software and computer interface much better than Ipod in ease of use and reliability. Great for watching movies. Nice simple/clean styling.
Failed device, poor customer service, very limited warranty September 29, 2008 I purchased the Zen 4GB mp3 player in April. At first it worked fine, and it seemed a cheaper alternative to an Apple 4GB device. After three months, however, the device frequently refused to start up, as its screen would freeze and turn completely white the moment I turned it on. Resetting the unit with a bent paper clip inserted into the reset hole only fixed the problem about %30 of the time; the rest of the time, I had to wait over an hour for some sort of electrical charge in the unit to dissipate before it would start again. I contacted customer support, who responded that I could in fact return the unit, but only after paying "a non-refundable US $25.00 diagnostics and handling fee." So, Creative expects me to pay about 20% of the product's original cost just so they can replace it, despite the fact that the defective unit is still under warranty?
My son bought an Apple iPod Nano, which broke after about 6 months. He walked into their store in town and they cheerfully gave him another one. No questions, no hassle, no wait. My money was poorly spent when I bought the Creative unit. Although the iPods are more expensive, Apple's customer support and strong warranty support make them the better purchase. Alas, an $86 lesson for me.
Creative's web site lists several "fixes" for units that freeze. I guess this must be a common development. Sigh.
AWESOME! September 25, 2008 This product is awesome... Prior to this, I owned a microphoto-also by Creative-and was satisfied with it, but wanted something more. This player has a nice, sleek design. It plays music well, has an awesome screen display, and wonderful playback and display features. This player rocks!
