It does this via built-in Wi-Fi support. There's even a special iTunes Wi-Fi Store, so you can browse and purchase new music and video while you're on the road. Incredibly thin at just 8 millimeters. | The iPod touch also includes Wi-Fi wireless networking, the first on any iPod, and three amazing applications that use it: Safari, the most advanced browser on any mobile device, lets you wirelessly view web pages just as they look on your computer, and features Google Search or Yahoo! oneSearch; Apple's YouTube application lets users wirelessly watch over 10 million free videos from the Internet's most popular video website; and the new iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store lets you wirelessly browse, preview and buy songs and albums from the most popular online music store in the world. And to top it all off, the iPod touch is an unbelievable eight millimeters thin. Music If a picture says a thousand words, think of what all the album art in your collection might say. With Cover Flow on iPod touch, you can flick through your music to find the album you want to hear. And when you do, a quick tap of the cover flips it over to display a track list. Another tap starts the music. Video The 3.5-inch display gives you video like nothing you've seen before on a portable device. Watch your favorite movie. Catch up on television shows, anywhere. Enjoy video podcasts. Play music videos. All using multi-touch technology that lets you bring up onscreen controls and go widescreen (or back to full screen) with a tap. Photos iPod touch holds up to 20,000 photos you sync via iTunes. Flick to scroll through thumbnails. Tap to view full screen. Rotate for landscape format. Or perform some sleight of hand by opening two fingers to zoom in. You can even play slideshows, complete with music and transitions. Set any photo as your wallpaper to personalize your iPod touch...with a touch. Safari With Apple's Safari browser built in, iPod touch is the only iPod that gives you wireless access to the web, everywhere you go. See websites the way they were designed to be seen. Sync your bookmarks or add a few as you go. Search the web using the touchscreen keyboard. Zoom in and out by tapping the multi-touch display. YouTube Got a bit of a YouTube addiction? iPod touch feeds it from anywhere with a special YouTube player built right in. Watch featured videos, check out the most viewed, search for something specific, then bookmark your favorites for future reference. It's all the fun of YouTube--pocket-size. iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store With iPod touch, you can discover new music anywhere. Built-in wireless capability gives you access to the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, where you can buy songs with a tap. Browse New Releases, What's Hot, and Just Added lists. Or find exactly what you're looking for with a quick search. Tap a song to preview it or tap Buy to purchase it. From anywhere. Starbucks Music You walk into a Starbucks. Order your latte. While you wait, you hear a song wafting from the loudspeakers. You love it. So you get out your iPod touch and buy it over Wi-Fi. Just like that. The iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch tells you what's playing in select Starbucks and lets you buy it along with other featured Starbucks content. So you can sip, shop, and listen. Multi-touch iPod touch features the same revolutionary interface as iPhone. Built to take full advantage of the large 3.5-inch display, the multi-touch interface lets you control everything using only your fingers. So you can glide through albums with Cover Flow, flick through photos and enlarge them with a pinch, or zoom in and out on a section of a web page. And iPod touch features a touchscreen QWERTY keyboard perfect for browsing the web in Safari, searching for videos on YouTube, finding music on the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, entering calendar events, or adding new contacts. Ambient Light Sensor The iPod touch display has an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts brightness to suit the ambient light in your surroundings. The result? A better experience for you and battery-saving efficiency for iPod touch. Accelerometer An accelerometer detects when you rotate iPod touch from portrait to landscape, then automatically changes the contents of the display, so you immediately see the entire width of a web page, your music in Cover Flow, or a photo in its proper aspect ratio.

Great Product August 21, 2008 I had an IPOD earlier on. So, bought this relying on information that you can upgrade based on previous item. Yet to try that. This product is world of information. As always apple has lived up to my expectations
This is simply GREAT!!! August 10, 2008 I was hesitant at first as I never had an "iPod" of any kind before. Needless to say, after I got my iPod Touch, now I am saying how did I ever get by without one? THIS IS A TRULY GREAT MOBILE DEVICE!
THis is especially true with the latest firmware upgrade (V2.0) for only 10 bucks and all the new applications available from the Apple iTunes store, many of which are actually pretty good and absolutely FREE!
The only thing that would be even better is of course, the iPhone itself. I actually don't need another cell phone, but the Touch would certainly be immensely more "mobile" if I had access to the Internet from anywhere all the time. This is its main limitation. You can only use it wirelessly if you are close to a WAP, or a home network with wifi access. Unfortunately, the places I go when I am out and about do not have (free) public access to the Internet. Not even where I work, and that's a real BUMMER. If I went out to eat a McDonald's everyday, or a Starbucks, that would help solve the problem.
Also, there are a lot of new iPhone apps which an iPod Touch user can use too, but without a built in audio output speaker (other than a simple "beeper"), nor a built in camera, some of these programs are less functional. For example, who wants to wear earphones to play a casual video game, or social network without being able to post photos in real time.
Nevertheless, the iPod Touch is plenty useful enough for many other applications, even if you are just sitting at home watching TV while check your emails or playing your favorite game during a commercial.
You can also use a Touch (with wifi access) to do text messages. Check out a webapp called Meebos.com for that, cause there Apple does not (yet) support a native SMS other than the one built in to the iPhone, but not available on the Touch. AIM is supported as a free app downloadable from the iTunes store, but all my contacts are using Yahoo or Windows Live. Thankfully, Meebos has those two covered.
Unless you want to download tons of music and movies, I think 16GB si adequate. However, 100 bucks extra to double the memory capacity is probably worth it to keep everything stored in your Touch without ever having to delete any files to make space for others.
Like the iPhone, the Touch's color graphics 3.5" hires touch screen and accelerometer are VERY NICE features! Many of the latest and greatest apps take good advantage of these features.
I recommend getting a couple of extra chargers; one for your car or at work to have handy. Under heavy use, the battery will need frequent recharges. After several hours of constant use, it will need to be recharged, but you can still use it while it is recharging.
Lastly, the retail marketplace has started selling new release DVD movies with "digital" copies, some of which are compatible with the iPod Touch (and iPhone). These new DVDs usually cost a couple bucks more, but if you want to watch movies on a mobile device (while wearing a set of headphones), you now have that option with certain movies (no HDDVD or BluRay formats though).
Definitely a useful, and handy mobile device to have for the 21st century! High Recommended!!!

I have to recharge the battery evey 4hrs after less than 40 min. talking time, and the WiFi is real slow. I CALL THIS A DESIGN WITH NO COMMON SENSE. Do not buy it yet! Wait until Apple fix the battery major problem first hand.
very cool but be prepared to buy other neccesities for it! June 28, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my first Apple product. I used to own a Creative Zen (very cool device) but I cracked the screen and needed a new mp3/video player. I was planning on spending $150 for another 8 gig Zen but I had some extra cash and decided to try this.
This device is very cool. The touch screen is nice (but gets dirty easily) I had to buy some clear covers (.50 each) and you definitely need a case. I recommend the DLO HipCase Leather Folio for iPod touch. Great case.
The biggest problem I find with this device is iTunes.
iTunes sucks.
With my Zen I could dump anything on to my device. Dealing with iTunes is a headache.
Unfortunately you pretty much have to use itunes unless you want to jump through a 1000 hoops.
But the product is great. I recommend it. Highly.
