Amazon.com Review Housed in high-tech blue plastic, this alarm clock is far more sophisticated than its cute appearance may lead one to believe. Whether you check on the time by consulting the clock's LCD screen or by looking at a large red-light projection of the time beamed onto a wall or ceiling, you'll know it's accurate. That's because the clock is equipped with a radio receiver tuned to the U.S. Atomic Clock, and keeps time with split-second accuracy by automatically adjusting, if necessary, to the Atomic Clock's signals six times every 24 hours. From those signals, the 5-1/4-by-4-1/2-inch clock (2-1/2 inches thick) not only shows the precise time, but also displays the date and day, with automatic adjustment for daylight-saving time and leap year, according to the North American time zone for which the clock is set. (The day can be shown in English, Spanish, or French.) The red-light projection makes it possible to check the time without squinting. If the clock is in battery mode (two AA batteries required but not included), pressing the clock's snooze bar will beam the time onto the ceiling for five seconds--and also backlight the LCD screen. If the clock is plugged into a wall socket with an AC adapter (included), the projection and backlighting will be available either for five seconds with the snooze bar or continuously if a continuous-beam control is set. As a backup, you can set the time, day, and date manually as well as automatically. --Fred Brack

love it so does the cat September 19, 2008 i had one of these and my kitty wore it out pressing the button on the top to see the projection. have looked for another one and bought other atomics in this price range that are hard to use . tickled to find a new one here.
Nice clock... but not loud enough for 3 sleepy boys September 16, 2008 The clock is very cool looking and easy to use. Easy to program. My kids REALLY like the feature of projecting the time on the ceiling. Nevertheless, I have a few complaints:
1. It is too easy to change the time zones on the clock so several mornings the alarm did not sound on "my" time, just because my boys had changed the time zone. 2. For 3 sleepy boys, the alarm is not loud enough. It starts pretty low and gradually gets louder, but, in my opinion, not loud enough to wake my boys up.
If you or your kids are heavy "sleepers", this might not be the right clock.
Great... for awhile September 16, 2008 Loved this clock until the projected LEDs started disappearing, and the time on the wall began looking like the cover to The Police's "Ghost in the Machine." Whatever other features it may have notwithstanding, I bought it for the projected clock, and I've wasted my money.
Great for elderly September 10, 2008 This watch is extermely cool when u want to see what the time is with the minimal effort of just opening ur eyes
Has some downfalls -- but this clock is perfect for me August 24, 2008 This clock works great for me. It runs great on battery power, and is very easy to illuminate with a tap of the good-sized snooze button on the top. That is also great in the mornings, because I definitely press the snooze button a lot. I've had problems in the past where I found the alarm off button easier to press than the snooze button (clearly a bad design, but this clock definitely does not have that problem).
I've only had one problem, since the alarm set/unset button is also the button to turn the alarm totally off in the morning, I once pressed this button one too many times, causing me to sleep in hours too late the next morning.
Unlike some other reviews I read, the alarm actually does crescendo. It starts out with one beep, then a slightly louder beep, then it adds multiple beeps and loudness as time goes on. The beeping isn't the best possible alarm, but it works for me.
Setting the alarm is very straightforward, and the thermometer is a nice added bonus, especially as a college student in a dorm room with poor heating temp control, it can provide a heads up when it's time to open the windows before you're totally sweating.
I guess I have to mention the other con here -- in more rural areas the signal for the time can be pretty weak and take a long time to set, and once you set it manually, that time sticks. That's not a huge problem because I'm perfectly capable of setting the time myself. The clock will eventually set from the weaker signal but I didn't find the wait worth it.
It may be worth mentioning that the small bend in the bottom also makes it a great candidate to balance on top of a slightly-smaller-than-the-clock bedpost (again I used this in a college dorm room). The rubbery grips don't hurt either in case it moves around when atop said bedpost.
Despite the small drawbacks I've found I really do think this is a great clock, worthy of 5 stars.
