Product Description Seize the day, moment by photogenic moment, with the Nikon Coolpix S51. Ok camera April 30, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just got this camera today. I took alot of pictures from it and the pictures showed up to be pretty good better than my friend's canon. The color from this camera is actually alot better than Canon. I also owned Nikon D80.I love my D80 but S51 seems very flimsy. It can break easily. I don't like the light and cheap feeling when holding it. It's not going to be a durable camera. It's stylish but it can fall easiy. I think this thing is going back tomorrow. I also just bought Canon SD750. I betrayed Nikon now. I'm so dissapponit how Nion built there poin and shoot camera, so cheaply built. BUt the DSLR from NIkon is good though.
conclusion: Good pictures but Bad material
Born again April 29, 2008 I LOVE this camera! I got it primarily because it takes great close-ups (and I watch caterpillars turn into butterflies pretty often). I'd had it about 3 months when disaster struck! I took it to the beach one evening and while I was wandering around it accidentally fell out of the camera bag...I looked for it minutes later, saw it, picked it up - and (to my GREAT chagrin) saw a car had driven right over it! Even a Nikon can't survive that, but the battery and memory card were salvageable. The next day I ordered the exact same camera - so I'm back in business!Nikon Coolpix S51 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Vibration Reduction Zoom (Matte Black)
I like it. April 19, 2008 The color (magenta) is hot and the small form factor is quite stylish. The 3" screen is beautiful, but just be careful not to touch it. The scroll wheel is actually quite useful. The pictures are good quality and the image stabilization works well, just as you would expect from a Nikon.
Though like some people have noticed, the camera may tend to turn on by itself in the case, on virtue of the slightly protruding on button. Try to store the camera in a not-so-tight space so that this will be less likely.
Anyways the camera works well, and looks slick. As long as you're not expecting an SLR (look at the size and price of it, this is clearly a ridiculous expectation), it works fine.
I will actually be buying a few more to give to family.
GOOD PICTURE BUT SHORT BATTERY LIFE TIME April 11, 2008 It takes excelent pictures and has nice shape and advantages like other Nikon cameras ( I have another coolpix S700 camera). The battery life is too short. The battery charge is ended in less than one hour. It is necessary buy another battery pack
Magenta is the new black..... April 7, 2008 My friend has the sl7 Nikon Coolpix and loved it. So, I decided to check it out. I found that there was the S5.1 in a variety of colors and has the 8.1 megapixels. The standard black and silver is nice but, to add a little spice the magenta was perfect.
Color aside..I read the manual and practiced a bit. Our first outing was at a get together in a rather dark bar. This little camera was able to collect enough light with the flash and internal flash to take excellent pictures. There was a delay that was fixed by setting the ISO to 1600 and using the flash option in the menu. The delay was about half a second. Using the updated settings, I was able to reduce it to about nil!
Excellent for getting candid shots!
The large screen was impressive and the slim design was great for putting in my pocket. I bought a screen cover with helps ALOT with messy fingerprints.
There are color settings: b/w, standard color, vivid color, cyan, and sepia. I got to play with them that night and all the shots had great character because of the different colors.
There was red eye issues - but, there is a red eye reducer in the camera that corrects this. Also, you can dock your camera in the cradle, plug the usb cord from the camera to the computer and manually fix any distortion (rare) or red eye(possible) using any photo program.
The transfer time from camera to computer is short and the software was VERY easy to load.
Great camera!!!!
