Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Lowepro's original favorite has been updated with new aesthetics and some great new designed-for-digital features. Still the perfect companion for day hikes, it has two compartments that easily carry camera gear plus snacks, clothing or personal items. The roomy upper compartment has a generous mesh pocket, 2 digital memory pockets, a large zipper pocket that's perfect for holding an MP3, Mini Disk or CD player and a headphone cable port that let's you listen to music while you're on the go. The lower compartment has a removable insert made of high-density, closed-cell foam with movable padded dividers and soft, brushed-tricot lining to protect delicate LCD screens from scratches and dust. The padded contoured shoulder harness with SlipLock attachment loops, detachable waistbelt and mesh-covered back pad provide a comfortable fit even on long treks. This pack also includes lots of accessory pockets, Hypalon attachment loops and an adjustable sternum strap.

4 out of 5 stars good   July 10, 2008
I like how this looks like a regular backpack. However, it took a short while to develop a technique to swing the backpack from behind and get the camera out without dropping the camera. I have to unzip the zipper with the buckle attached, then unbuckle with the backpack held carefully.

4 out of 5 stars perfect for day-trips   April 27, 2008

Durable and discreet, so I feel safe carrying my equipment around. Camera compartment does not fit a lot of stuff. In my case, it's a nikon D80, SB-800, and about 2 extra lenses (tight fit, but tall enough for smaller telephotos). Padded separators are on velcro closures, but the strips for attachment are a bit thin, so not much flexibility there... BUT it held up great on all the day-trips that I took it on. Top part has nicely built in zippered pockets for batteries, filters, and some other small stuff, and is reasonably sized (I was happy it fit my Vaio TX laptop too with no problems). Headphone "cable port" is also a neat feature.

Cons: I wish it had some type of rig to attach a tripod, but with a bit of creativity it does work out.

5 out of 5 stars great for trips and on a motorcycle   March 7, 2008
Lowepro Orion Trekker II Camera Backpack (Red) I simply love this bag. Great value for the money. The bottom section is great for my canon eos digital 400 and all the filters and lens. The top section I use for my camcorder, wallet, and other items for my cameras.
The bag is very comfortable on hikes, even on motorcycle trips.
I would recommend this bag to anyone. Very durable.

5 out of 5 stars Great camera backpack   September 13, 2007
I only have a few lenses for my digital SLR, so this backpack works great for me. I've taken it on a couple of trips and use it around the city. Have been wonderfully pleased.

3 out of 5 stars Very handy and roomy, but the straps won't stop loosening up   January 31, 2007

I can't complain too much about this backpack. In fact, I have enough room for my D80 with a lens attached, a speedlight, and 3 different lenses in the main compartment alone. I found the CD/MP3 getup to be not as useful as advertised. Plenty of mini compartments available in the upper half of the backpack. The major peeve I have about the Orion Trekker II is that there is no particular way to prevent the straps from loosening up unless you have some way of knotting them up. The shoulder straps tend to loosen up especially if you are doing some rigorous hiking and the bag is filled to medium or full capacity. I've found myself re-tightening the shoulder straps way too frequently. Other than that, it's a very useful camera backpack.
