THIS IS GREAT July 5, 2008 It works perfectly. Thank you for shipping fast too. I love it. I now need more.
Panasonic Powerline Adapter July 1, 2008 My previous D-link powerline ethernet adaptor could not be upgraded to Vista. I thought I would try the Panasonic adaptor since it was self-synching and required no software. Unlike trhe D-link unit it did not work when the remote adaptor was plugged into an outlet in the same room as my computer. However, it worked fine when using an outlet in the next room, but this necessitated running an ethernet cable between the two rooms. It has been working fine without any loss of synch problems that I experienced frequently with my D-link product. In general I am very satisfied with this product. The alternative would have been to add a range extender for my wireless network which would have been a much more expensive option condering the very low Amazon price for the Pansonic powerline units.
Might not work for people living in apartments June 29, 2008 I had high hopes when I ordered this item from Amazon. To my dismay (and as stated by many in reviews) this device is a really poor performer if you live in an apartment complex where home-wiring is a little complex. I ditched the powerline option and got a DLink wireless router D-Link DIR-655 Extreme N Wireless Router. I had a linksys but this one blew me away with its performance. So if Wireless is an option and you live in an apartment complex, stick to WiFi...
GREAT GREAT PRODUCT!!! June 26, 2008 You cannot go wrong with this product. It works like a charm....Only good things can be said.....Great job Panasonic....inexpensive product and it works like magic.
Simple and cheap alternative to DirecTV's On Demand hardware June 25, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
When I came across this product, I was looking to connect my DirecTV HD-DVR box (HR20-100) to my wireless network to access their "on demand" beta program. The HR20-100 offers no USB support (at least at this time) so the only option was to actually run network cable to it (not really an option due to distance) or to use a powerline adapter. DirecTV offered on their site a package of powerline adapters, but with no information about brand, so I was a bit skeptical. At the time, Amazon was offering this package at a price that was almost half of what DirecTV wanted for their package, and with positive reviews and a known name, I figured it was worth a shot.
Now I know enough about computers and my network to be prepared to tweak and reconfigure default settings to get the device to work. However, this was ready to go right out of the box, even with my non-default network settings. While both devices look exactly the same, one is labeled to be the "host" device (the one you plug into your router), while the other one is unlabeled. Plug one into the wall (power strips aren't recommended) and run network cable between the device and your router, and plug the other into the wall and run network cable between the DTV box and the other device. I'd say it took all of five minutes, and I wouldn't expect a PC novice to take longer than that either.
Even at a higher price, I would still consider this over the DirecTV offering until they eventually state who makes their product or start offering it for a discount. Highly recommended.
