Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This medium size pack offers foam-padded protection and quick access to multiple SLRs, lenses, flash and accessories. The main compartment is completely foam padded with numerous adjustable, foam-padded dividers to protect digital or film SLRs, 5-7 lenses, and a flash. The camera with a long zoom lens attached is suspended on two vertical, foam-padded dividers that are internally reinforced with rigid plastic. A restraint strap holds the lens firmly in place. Two Windowpane-Mesh pockets inside the front flap visibly organize filters, film and other accessories. A plastic, foam-padded platform in the bottom provides shock protection while a LockDown rain flap protects the zipper from the elements. A large front pocket with a water-resistant zipper holds a light jacket or extra gear.

4 out of 5 stars Functional, good access   June 8, 2008
I carry a Nikon D80, 18-135, 12-24, 70-300, 50mm 1.4, 24mm 2.8, SB600 flash, assorted filters, hoods, batteries and cards. It all fits, is comfortable to hike in all day, and offers adequate protection for a soft case. It has a system for storing 4 cards in a way that shows if they are used or not, and has full access to anything in seconds. The case does require you to take it off to open it, and the main compartment is a single compartment, all large items are exposed at once, but this really means all lenses are reachable at once. The cards and battery compartments are on the outside, on the back. The zippers seem to be reasonably weatherproof, and I have worn this in light rain without problems. Don't drop it on rocks or dump it overboard and you should be OK.

PS, got this to replace an Expedition 3 when I added more gear; I keep the 3 for my 2-lens urban treks; it holds any two of the above and more.

4 out of 5 stars Tamrac 5575 Expedition 5 Photo Backpack   April 23, 2008

I used the backpack for the first time while taking day hikes in Yosemite National Park. The backpack has plenty of room for SLR camera, multiple lenses, flashes, tripod and accessories. I didn't care for the Tamrac water bottle, but that's another review. The weight of my pack and camera gear was about 24 lbs. The pack was well padded and comfortable, although after an entire day of hiking mostly uphill, the shoulders were a little sore. Due to my thin frame (6'2" and 180 lbs.), I had the shoulder straps tightened to the max and pack still sat a little low on my back. Overall, very good value and very good camera pack.

5 out of 5 stars Great backpack! Plenty of room and comfortable to wear.   April 12, 2008

This is a great backpack with lots of room and comfortable shoulder straps. I went from a tamrac messenger bag to this and love it. As long as you understand that you have to take the bag off and put it down to access your gear then it will suit you well. Most of the time, I just use the bag to transport my gear to my location and set it down in the corner as i shoot with quick trips to the bag to switch lenses. If I am shooting while on location, I usually will take out my camera and maybe another lens that I will slip into my pocket and put the backpack back on and shoot. i wore the bag for a 1 hr traveling photo shoot on the beach with no complaints. My arches were more impacted from the uneven sand than my back/shoulders from the bag. I currently have a Nikon D80 with mb-d80 battery grip, 18-200mm lens mounted on the body, hood, 50mm prime lens, sb-800 flash, sb-600 flash, and still have plenty of room. I am planning to get either the 80-200 or 70-200 2.8 tele and should have plenty of room. Lots of pockets for accessories like extra batteries, filter, etc. the tripod mount is also convenient. I don't even notice the tripod when wearing bag.
If you are looking at getting a backpack for your gear, this is it! Great price, great value!!!
