5 out of 5 stars Awesome for traveling!   June 23, 2008

When I travel I like to limit the camera gear I take with me. I just went to Alaska and brought: canon 40d, canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS with lens hood, canon 17-40mm f/4.0L with lens hood, canon 50mm f/1.8, 15.4" dell laptop, 8gb memory card, 2 2gb memory cards, 1 1gb memory card, remote switch, a couple filters and a couple optech rain covers. Everything fit in this bag with ease and I was still able to throw my light coat into the top pocket.

When I'd take it out hiking or around town I'd just leave my laptop back at the hotel locked in the safe and it was pretty light. Incredibly convenient.

Tamrac offers straps to hold a tripod on the bottom for about $8 for a pack of two. They suck, don't get them. Figure out a way to engineer your own. They come loose too easily and will fall out. I've already lost mine. :(

5 out of 5 stars Love this bag   June 15, 2008

Bought this bag for a trip to Yosemite and carried it for 7 days during daily hiking trips. The bag is comfortable and easily held my camera equipment + day hike essentials.

My camera equipment:
Konica Minolta 5D
Sony 18-200mm
Sigma 50-500mm (huge lens...equivalent to 70-200 f2.8 in size).
Sony 75-300mm
Sony 100mm Macro
Binoculars
Extra Batteries, Charger,
Misc
Monopod (hooked on outside of bag)

Day Pack Essentials:
Books (yosemite, etc)
Rain Jacket
2 Bottles of Water
First aid kit
misc

I liked it so much I am planning to buy the bigger Tamrac (adventure 10?) for longer hiking trips.

The only negative that I'd say about this was that it didn't come with any tie-down straps. I had to purchase these (bought 2 from REI for $5)...this one oversight is the only thing I can see wrong with this bag.

4 out of 5 stars A great, almost perfect, "in between" backpack   May 21, 2008
It's In between a large and small pack. That's what I wanted. I sought long and hard for this kind of camera bag. Most backpacks look like Lego Space Men rocket packs, and others were too small, and still others were too big. I wanted a comfortable size, and this is certainly it. It fits all my lenses, my 20D with battery grip, memory cards, cleaning accessories, batteries, chargers, and safely too. AND still has room for a big lunch, some water bottles, and diapers and wipes for my kid. It's very efficient with space. It's not as big as the Adventure 10, and not as small as the Adventure 8... go figure. It looks, and fits like a REAL backpack and not a box with straps. It's versatile and has a nice profile. The compartments work well to keep things safe. My only complaint is some of my lenses feel a little too snug in their compartments... may just be me needing to rearrange things, but it's still keeps them cushioned and safe. A good backpack for a day hike and light traveling.

5 out of 5 stars Very well built product   April 30, 2008

Very well built product. I can tell this will hold up. It's like a tank. I bought "refurbished" but I can't find any imperfections.

5 out of 5 stars Great Camera/Laptop Backpack   April 29, 2008

I've been an avid Lowepro fan for years (and still am). In fact, I've never purchased a bag that wasn't made by Lowepro before this one. That said, I am extremely satisfied with my Tamrac Adventure 9.

This bag is not the type of pack you want to use for "everyday" shooting, especially if you do editorial-type photography where you constantly pull your camera in and out of a bag, but as far as travel or day-hikes, this might be one of the best options on the market. Aside from the ample interior space for multiple lenses, bodies and accessories, this is the ideal backpack for airline travel. It's small enough to fit under the seat (even when packed to its breaking point), but large enough to carry all your gear and have some room left over for non-camera amenities/accessories in the top compartment. The laptop sleeve holds a 15 in. comfortably and even had enough space for a folder with paperwork and a thin book or two.

This pack is durable, and comfortable to wear, and displaces the weight of your gear very nicely. If this pack had a weather cover it might seriously give Lowepro a scare. That said, I got caught in a downpour in London recently, made it back to the hotel and found my gear dry as a bone inside. I took out my gear to let the pack dry and it was ready for use a couple of hours later.

If you're looking for a sturdy, comfortable backpack to either travel with or take a day trip, the Tamrac Adventure 9 won't let you down.
