Amazon.com Product Description The Logitech mm50 Portable Speakers for iPod utilize 3-inch pressure drivers to maximize bass and minimize distortion, creating the full experience of home audio for life on the go. The use of 3-D sound processing also widens the stereo effect, so that this system's sound seems to come from an area about two feet wider than the speakers themselves. The speakers are powered by an AC adapter or rechargeable Li-ion batteries, come with a credit card-sized wireless remote, and are easily compatible with all docking iPods. If you don't have an iPod with a dock connector, just use the auxiliary outlet. You also get a protective case and 2-year limited warranty that give you both security and peace of mind. Should you find yourself overseas with these speakers, the AC adapter is international voltage capable, truly letting you enjoy your iPod's music wherever you go. The Li-ion batteries last up to 10 hours, and you can charge both the speakers and your iPod simultaneously. Worked, sometimes, for a while... September 24, 2008 I've had this product for a little over a year. From the very beginning, it had a problem mentioned in the forums for this product: even if it had been charging for days without playing a note, it needed a boost from the outlet before it would play (then, it would play for hours just fine without being plugged in). Like the person who started that thread noted, it doesn't exactly make them PORTABLE! I would not trust taking these to a place without power, because it seems to really like a boost of electricity before it'll start playing.
Not only that, a few months ago, more stuff started to go wrong. When I try to plug the adaptor cord into the outlet on the back of the speakers, it doesn't always work. It's plugged in, sure. But something is wrong, I think, with the outlet hole on the back of the speakers... the connection isn't connecting in there.
For a while, I was able to get it to work by wiggling the adaptor cord around in the speaker outlet for about 15 minutes, getting the angle just right, then sticking a lighter underneath the cord & a heavy candle (not lit, LOL) on top of the speakers. But God forbid you breathe on it, because the connection will get lost again.
Lately, it's stopped working altogether... nothing can make this puppy charge, NOTHING. I don't know what the technical term for this part is, but it's the outlet (hole?) on the back of the speakers, where the cord plugs into the speakers. Something inside there is loose, so the cord isn't able to give any juice to the speakers.
Such a waste, along with the other 5 or 6 iPod speakers I've acquired over the years, that all seem to have a life of only a few months... never much longer than a year. Wish someone could make iPod speakers that could actually stand up to use & last awhile. Guess they want to keep us buying more speakers. Well, my list of brands I will not buy again is growing longer & longer, & Logitech is at the top of it!
Never Recieved September 18, 2008 I wouldnt be able to tell you about this product because it never reached me and the best that the retailer could do for me is return my money. So I went to a local retailer and spent 150% of what I originally paid because I knew I could walk out with it. Thanks a lot Amazon. Oh, by the way, this was my first ever purchase with Amazon, and likely the last. Gee, if only we could figure out why our service based economy is failing. Curious, isnt it?
Logitech Portable Speakers August 11, 2008 These speakers provide great sound for your I-Pod. The product was as advertised, and the seller was quick to ship.
Quality and convenience August 7, 2008 I have owned this iPoD speaker system for 6 months and have been quite happy with its quality and convenience. The sound quality is excellent for its size. It is particularly convenient because it can be operated cordless (never used up all the battery supply yet) and is small enough to carry in one hand. I also like the fact that it charges my iPod. It came with several adapters to fit a variety of iPods. The appearence is sleek and unobtrusive.
THE WHOLE IDEA HERE IS PORTABILITY!!! June 15, 2008 I have owned an MM50 for over a year now.
I had scoured the market to see what was available and found that a lot of the speaker docks out there certainly look cool. Bose, Klipsch, etc., but after having the MM50 for a while I realize that it is just as cool if not more so than the higher priced units. Seriously.
The MM50 is the ultimate in utilitarian design. A simple yet streamlined box sporting it's drivers and a dock for your iPod. Two simple fold out legs and a simple four button control not to mention it's multi function remote control. It's construction is solid. It's face/grille is a nice semi-gloss black perforated metal.
It's sound? Surprisingly good for such a small unit. I was impressed. Now remember, the whole idea here is portablity. Take a look at Bose or Klipsch and then look at the MM50 and think portability. The MM50 blows them away. Do the others sound better? Yes. Does the MM50 sound bad? NO!!!! The MM50 has a surprising volume level for such a small unit. It has great presence. Bright, clear sound. Turn on the spacializer and its even better.
Battery life is pretty good. I get about five to six hours at a low to moderate volume. If you use the spaciaizer it sucks away a bit more power and you might cut down to about four to five hours of use before needing a recharge. Yes, that's right. Self contained batteries. You can't change them. That's OK though.
One other point. I just recently bought and iPhone and I have found that this unit works flawlessly with my iPhone. NO GSM NOISE AT ALL!!!!
Also, the rear of the MM50 has a connection so you can use this as a flow through dock for your iPod and iPhone. It also charges your iPod or iPhone when docked. Not bad!
If you really want something PORTABLE for your iPod or iPhone buy the MM50.
