Amazon.com Review
Sony and Sega always have had a way of looking at successful Nintendo games and saying, "We can do that!" (See Crash Team Racing, for one example.) Now, Sega has all but copied Mario Party and produced its own version of a digital board game, which features the Sonic cast of characters.

Sonic Shuffle, as it's known, easily could have been called Sonic Party, because of the countless similarities between it and the Nintendo title. Players move from space to space--going after Precioustones (instead of stars), collecting rings along the way (instead of coins), and participating in minigames (same for both). As an added twist, characters also get into card battles with monsters, a la Pokemon.

Unfortunately, the minigames in Sonic Shuffle are painfully uninspired and frequently un-fun. Also, players are forced to sit through battles between the computer and the computer. The fact that four can play is a plus; but, on the whole, this one's just a pretender to the throne. --Robb Guido

Pros:

  • Colorful graphics
Cons:
  • Minigames are uninspired and un-fun

2 out of 5 stars Mario Party with the Sonic name on it   September 21, 2008
Before I wanted this, I expected this to be a fun, entertaining experience. Instead, I got this: bad AI, boring gameplay, and only 8 playable characters. I expected more out of Sonic Shuffle.

On paper, Sonic Shuffle is great: picking out cards, moving to spaces, and getting the most Precious Stones. In practice, it is the opposite. This is a very boring game, and with the AI, they can be very hard to beat, even on the Easy difficulty setting. The game's story is horrible: A fairy named Lumina asks the Sonic team to help her get Precious Stones and save everyone's dreams from Void. Yeah, it's a baby story.

The graphics are suprisingly good.

The sound is so bad.

This game doesn't live up to its full potential. Add minigames that are either frustrating or confusing, and you've got one of the worst games ever made.

3 out of 5 stars Its mario party, just messed up   September 1, 2008
Well I havent got much to say escept for what the title says I played the first world it seemed like mario party but to me the cards are an annoying way of moving I liked blocks better, and

3 out of 5 stars Sonic Shuffle Review !   July 21, 2006

If you are a huge Sonic fan you will like this game but it probably won't be your favorite. I myself am a huge Sonic the Hedgehog fan and I think this game is okay. If you like Mario Party it's like the same thing only it's a lot slower, a few mini games and a bunch of crap you don't want to deal with. If you want my opinion stick with the Sonic Adventure games and if you still want to by Sonic Shuffle try to buy it under seven dollars !

5 out of 5 stars Please remake this game!   November 7, 2005

The reviewers who gave this game 1 star are both right and wrong. This game is related to Mario Party (Involving winning or losing rings, using special power-ups, playing mini-games, etc.) But I think it's a lot better. It involves Sonic and his friends in the dream world, saving 5 special dreams from the evil Void. However, they get to move across the board with cards. There are cards labeled 1-6, the awesome Special cards, and the tricky Eggman cards. Also, the reviewers forgot to mention that this game has a Sonic room feature where you can check out all the cool things you've unlocked.

This is a great game and we would have played it more, but our old Dreamcast refuses to work properly and instead of entering or exiting a game mode, it sends us back to the Dreamcast menu entirely. How annoying.

Since our Dreamcast isn't working, I would love to own this on a newer system. If it does get remade however, I will revise my review into a thank you note.
