Secure and usable June 30, 2008 The secure features of this drive are easy to use and require little jumping through hoops. The built-in encryption application and mounts your password-protected partitions ("vaults") when you plug-in the device (configurable). Other nice features: -can be used as a normal flash drive without encryption -nice bonus features: file shredder and individual file encryption
The only thing it's missing is a Linux client to allow access to secure areas on Linux.
Great little flash drive June 5, 2008 I always tend to side with lexar flash drives, as I find them more reliable, and the memory display very useful. This little flash drive works great, and is useful for large files of video that I come in contact with as a film student, as I can't always carry my 500Gb hard drive around with me everywhere. Not to mentions flash will work in both Mac and PC, allowing me to move larger files from one to the other.
For a normal person though, 8GB is way over your practical range. Used to have a similar 2GB Lexar before it was stolen, and loved it; was more than enough for document and picture files than I could ever ask for.
Yes there are many other cheaper flash drives out there, but it's worth it for me to get a Lexar, and have faith that my files are that much more secure. As I said before, the memory display is also great, both for data management, and bragging rights.
Important detail not disclosed anywhere March 5, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have owned several flash drives from the Lexar Jump Drive Secure lineup over the past few years, in different sizes. I have always found them to be excellent drives that are great for backing up my files on the go and keeping them secure just in case I ever misplaced them.
HOWEVER, on this particular model there is a very important detail that is not disclosed ANYWHERE on the packaging, in the product description on Amazon, or in the other reviews.
The drive is FAT32. FAT32 apparently does not support encrypted vaults larger than 4GB. The drive cannot be formatted NTFS because it is apparently too small to support it.
Maybe most people don't buy these drives with the intent to actually store 7-8 GB of encrypted data, but that is precisely the reason I bought this. Since it cannot do what I need it to do, I am returning it. Very disappointed in this ludicrous design limitation. What good is an 8GB secure flash drive if it can only encrypt 4GB? Especially when a vanilla flash drive of the same capacity is one half to one third of the price right here on Amazon.
Exceptional product January 16, 2008 I like the extremely large storage capacity and the encryption options. It is great to have the ability to choose my own preferences. I have already found this product to come in very handy!
Works like a champ! November 11, 2007 I had the PNY 8Gb Attache and it jammed up with large file transfers and was a real pain as I wanted to use my flash drive as back up to My Documents. The Lexar works great and was pretty quick for the first transfter (~3Gb). The design is really smooth and fits in the hand well. The color is stylish (like the black...goes with my Thinkpad) and the capacity bar works as advertised. The "activity light" is a nice blue and it looks good with the all black stick. The sides curve in slightly (much like my Palm TX) and it's easy to remove the cap. That's one final point. The USB plug has a real cap that fully protects the connectors from dust and contamination. I don't like the new SanDisks as the USB plug retracts and doesn't protect it against dust, dirt and lint if you put it in your pocket.
