5 out of 5 stars Lowepro Fastpack 250   August 8, 2008
The Lowepro Fastpack 250 easily carries my Nikon D3, 24 - 70 mm f2.8 lens, my 70 - 300 mm VR lens, my 18 - 200 mm VR lens, my 50 mm f1.8 lens and my 12 - 24 mm lens along with all the accessories including my Wolverine ESP portable disk drive and spare battery. In addition I carry a Dell Latitude 15.4 inch display laptop computer and power supply. It adjusts easily for carrying on my back and for short distances has a carrying loop on top. This product rates tops with me!

5 out of 5 stars Favorite all-purpose camera bag to date   July 22, 2008

I've tried a few bags over the last few months, and this beats everything else out there for me - I have the following:

Nikon D80
SB400
Sigma 10-20mm 1:4-5.6
Nikon 50mm 1:1.8D
Nikon 85mm f/1.4D AF
Nikon 18-200mm 1:3.5-5.6 G ED
Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG

I also have various other items in the bag, such as my Canon PowerShot SD1000 and Sony Handycam SR42 video camera.

I can also fit my 15" MacBook in there, and everything fits perfectly. I still have more room for bits and bobs in the main zipped pouch on the top/front of the bag, and have room for cleaning products/cloths in the lower/front zipped pouch behind the flap/cover.

It feels heavy, but MUCH more comfortable than my previous SlingShot 200 (which fit everything except for my laptop), as the double over the shoulder backpack strap design separates the weight evenly over my back - the SlingShot would slide back to my lower left area of my bag and really give my right shoulder some serious ache.

Two thumbs up for this. It's a big bag, but my god is it comfy.

Thanks LowePro.

4 out of 5 stars Nearly perfect pack - needs monopod/tripod attachment   July 20, 2008

Summary: The best field pack for amateur sport photography
Pros:
1. Holds my 40d w/ 70-200 mm, f2.8 zoom attached.
2. Holds the big 580exII flash, 2x telextender, 17-85 EFS zoom in separate padded pockets.
3. Flash film pockets and numerous others for accessories.
4. Good straps and waistband.
Cons:
1. No built-in place to hold tripod or monopod. I ended up hooking my monopod to the top loop with a carabiner based on reading another user's review.
2. The drink pocket could be just a little larger vertically to hold a liter bottle securely. It can do it now, just not while running to catch a shot.
3. The top open compartment could be just a tiny bit more generous.

Discussion:
Although I did find some issues with this pack, it has performed just great. If the monopod attachment issue was handled better, I would give it five stars. The carabiner work-around still has issues. I hang the mono's hand strap from the carabiner and stick the other end under one of the buckles that holds the main flap in place. this works, but it does not look great and sometimes the end sticks out and catches or hits the surroundings. Lowepro knows how to take care of this; they do it on most of their other packs. For some reason, they just missed this one.

None of the other cons are all that serious, but they are nice to haves. For instance, a liter is the minimum amount of water I want with me for a game under the sun. My Nalgene bottle can be easily dislodged from the drink pocket, so I have to make do with something else if I intend to run with the play a bit.

All that said, I looked at a lot of packs and this is the one that came closest to what I wanted/needed. Tough and decent looking with a bit less of a "steal me" look than many photo bags or packs. Amazon had the best price, too.

4 out of 5 stars Very happy   July 14, 2008

I am very happy with this backpack. It packs my D300 and all accessories with plenty of storage and carries very comfortably. The fast access really works, you can get to your camera in a few seconds . My laptop fits perfectly, which prevents the need for an additional bag in case I like to travel with it as well.
The only two options I would like to see with this bag are the optional weather cover (by Lowepro) and some straps to carry my tripod. Other than that, perfect camera storage for travelling.

4 out of 5 stars What is that smell?   July 13, 2008
In the past I had purchased a couple of Lowe backpacks for climbing and hiking but this the first LowePro camera pack I've bought. So what is that foul smell? You unzip the bag and the first thing you notice is a pungent chemical/plastic/toxic odor. Does it go away? I hope so. The bag is typical of Lowe products and very well designed and made. The bag is also bigger than I thought and easily gobbles up a lot of gear but handles the weight very well. If you've never worn a pack with ergonomic shoulder straps you will be pleasantly surprised. The side access is overrated as the bag does not like hanging in that position but it does work. Overall I like the pack except for that internal stench.
