Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Sony offers the MDR-E828LP Fontopia Ear-Bud Stereo Headphones. Fontopia in-the-ear design fits snugly, yet comfortably inside the ear so you can enjoy music while exercising, skating or dancing. Sony Acoustic Twin Turbo Circuitry uses sound chamber and ducts for improved efficiency, gets high sonic output from your portable stereo. Silent Cap prevents sound leakage, makes your music less likely to disturb your neighbors. Neodymium magnet allows for maximum energy in minimum size. Neodymium is far more powerful than conventional Samarium Cobalt or Aluminum magnets. Compact case neatly stores the ear-buds and headphone cord when not in use and is ideal for carrying in a pocket or purse.

Amazon.com Product Description
These super-light, ear-bud headphones weigh a mere six grams (.18 ounces.) They are the perfect headphone for those who relish lightweight, quality headphones. The silent cap confines the music to the listener's ear and away from those in the immediate area, a plus for those using the headphones in the coffee shop or library. The earphones are also open-air, meaning they allow ambient noises to enter the ear; this translates to a safer headphones, as the listener will be aware of horns, whistles and shouts.

The MDR-E828LP's deliver a quality sound, even with their small size. The headphones use sixteen millimeter drive units for a deep bass and clear treble. Sony also uses neodymium magnets which provide more energy per ounce than other conventional magnets. The PET diaphragm gives the headphones a high rigidity for minimum distortion. Finally, Sony's Acoustic Twin Turbo circuit achieves high sonic output by utilizing sound chamber and duct technology. The oxygen-free litz cord transfers sound efficiently. The cord is one meter long (3.3 feet) for ample range of movement. The housing is a modern, hi-tech, black and silver metallic finish.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing headphones for ridiculously low price   August 31, 2008
I got these quite a while ago as a Christmas gift to replace my old, broken headphones. At the time, I had little experience with digital music and didn't really notice much special about these earbuds.

However, after buying an iPod nano recently and using Apple's provided earbuds, which subsequently fell apart, I returned to these and was stunned by the incredible sound quality. The bass in these tiny earbuds is very impressive compared to the Apple units, and in general the sound is very well balanced with all frequencies coming through with great clarity.

In addition, the design and construction of these headphones is very solid and durable. Best of all, they're less than 10 dollars!

If you're looking for a good pair of earbuds, BUY THESE. Great sound, solid construction, and the best price you'll find!

4 out of 5 stars Above average sound, below average quality   August 6, 2008
I bought these at my local Best Buy and I knew they were definitely an improvement over the ones that came with my MP3 player, but they didn't absolutely wow me. Nevertheless, they had pretty good sound quality. The only thing that I didn't like was that they don't have a great build quality. The black part that touches your ear came off on mine, and when I tried to put it back together, the right ear disconnected. I went back to best buy and got a different set of earphones, and those were nowhere near the sound quality and they were $15 more. I took them back and got these again, and my new pair hasn't broken since (I've had the new pair for about 6th months, the old pair was about 9 months). Overall, I am definitely satisfied with these headphones, but I haven't found a pair yet under $30 that makes me go "Wow!" But these come closest.

Also, When laying down with these on carpet, you can barely feel them, and I usually find headphones uncomfortable. I think I like these because they're nnot in-ear, they hang on the ear. That is a problem when running, though, so I keep a pair of in-ear earphones for that.

3 out of 5 stars Bought 3 already; this recent one was the fastest to die   July 27, 2008
Although its sound quality-to-price ratio is the best in the market (if that's ever quantifiable), this product does not last long. After about a month of using these headphones daily with my iPod, the sound quality in the left ear has suddenly become fuzzy, and is now subject to the careful adjustment and positioning of the plug (or of the wire immediately connected to the plug). This exact condition has arisen three times already to three of these same headphones that I've bought, leading me to suspect that Sony has deliberately done this, in an attempt to maximize their profit from these items.

The warranty is pretty bothersome as well, as you would need to buy your own packaging and pay your own shipping (purportedly at a lower price, but I haven't tried yet).

If you still intend on buying these, be EXTREMELY careful with handling them, for all the reasons mentioned above.

2 out of 5 stars Sound good, don't fit   July 20, 2008
I ordered these with my sony fm radio because so many said the sounded great. If I hold them in my ears, they do sound great. But, they don't stay in my ears and were such a hassle I threw them away. Maybe it's my ears, but I tried several different ways, to no avail.

3 out of 5 stars Not too bad   July 10, 2008
This is a good ear phone for its price. But at times only 1 ear piece works (the left channel) but then it goes back to normal. I still havent figured what the reason is. If it persists I'll ask for a return Overall not a bad product
