5 out of 5 stars Excellent little print server   August 29, 2008
A very nice piece of hardware. Installed easily to my server. Hard to find three printer print servers these days, really hard to find servers that handle more than one usb printer. And a very attractive price. All in all a good purchase for my small company.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Print Server   August 19, 2008
This is an excellent item. Setup was extremely simple and quick. I have a HP Designjet 500 and a HP 1500 all in one connected to it and everything works perfectly. I would reccommend this to anyone.

There is a wired and wireless version, I already had my wireless home network setup so I just bought the wired version and connected it, works great.

2 out of 5 stars Works well with some printers, but not HP OfficeJets   May 14, 2008

I bought this Trendnet print server for use with an old HP LaserJet 5L that hooks up with a parallel port, along with an HP OfficeJet 5610 all-in-one printer that connects via USB. This Trendnet model has 1 parallel port and 2 USB ports, so I thought that down the road, if I replace the old LaserJet with a new one, I could hook up both the OfficeJet and the new Laser printer to the 2 USB ports, but in the near future, I would just use 1 USB and the parallel port.

The old LaserJet 5L works great with this Trendnet print server, no problems at all and very easy to set up. But the OfficeJet 5610 was a big problem, and after trying to get it to work based on many ideas I found on the Internet, Trendnet support finally replied to my request about how to make it work, as well as my initial question about whether this Trendnet print server even works with an HP OfficeJet 5610 (since I saw many reviews that said particular printers won't work).

He is the response from Trendnet technical support to my question about whether this would work with the HP OfficeJet 5610: "The HP Officejet series are Host based printers, what that means is that they requires more bi-directional support than most printservers can support. Trendnet has three printservers that can work with a Host based printer TE100-MP1U, TE100-MP2U, and TEW-MP2U."

Unfortunately, none of those 3 listed models (all available on Amazon.com) have parallel ports. All 3 only have USB ports (one USB port for the first model listed, 2 USB ports for the second, and 2 USB for the third one which is wireless).

My advice, based on my experience and similar experiences I saw posted on the Internet from others, is to contact Trendnet technical support first before you buy to make sure that your particular printer(s) work with the Trendnet server that you want to get.

In my case, a very old LaserJet was no problem, but an HP OfficeJet 5610 that is just a year old has no chance of working. As a result, for my situation, I will need two separate Trendnet print servers - one for the OfficeJet from the 3 listed above, and another for the old parallel port printer (unless I also buy a new Laser printer with a USB connection, in which case the last 2 models would work).

5 out of 5 stars Exceed expectations   March 14, 2008

Bought this to connect a (discontinued) HP DesignJet 100plus to a Win2003SBS network. The Designjet only has drivers through Win2k, and has parallel/USB ports only so I expected a challenge.

Though, like others have said, the documentation here was sparce (not good for the inexperienced), I'd done print servers before and a number of Trendnet products. Perhaps it was the Trendnet experience, but the setup was very straightforward for me.

I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a print server ... and Trendnet support has always been good on other products for me, if you need a talkthrough.

3 out of 5 stars Works With Too Many Regrets   March 11, 2008

Product is pretty good, but a good product alone could never gain 5 stars without good documentations and fool-proof quick start guide. Fact is the document that comes with the product is worst than none.

Anyway, I set it up after quite some hack work. My old HP deskjet 970Cxi works great via the LPT port, but I could never get my HP LaserJet 1000 printing on the USB port of the print server. So if you have an HP laser USB type, beware!

Is there anybody who knows how to make HP LaserJet USB printer work with this print server? Please kindly give us some advise here!
