 Eliminated my carpal tunnel July 3, 2008
After using a regular mouse for awhile my hand always goes numb. This has been going on for about 10 years. I'm a computer programmer and am on my computer 8 hours a day or more. I purchased this mouse and my hand hasn't gone numb since I bought it. I think if you would start out using this then you could avoid any symptoms of carpal tunnel. It takes a little getting used to as your hand is in a different position. Once you get used to it you can even play games normally. I played Mass Effect all the way through with it and everything worked fine. I do have to criticize the wireless aspect. It becomes unreliable when it is more than about one foot away from the mouse.
 Won't hold settings & locks in where it shouldn't be. April 25, 2008
The MS6000 5 button laser mouse has great features if they worked. When certain programs open up the settings are deferred to what ever it will be & the roller button becomes a magnifier & sticks as such until a restart is done. There are times when the roller button turns to "Show Deck Top". It seemed to work for a few weeks then has gotten progressively worse. Typical Microsoft. VERY inconvenient.

For some reason, use of this wireless mouse (like many other Microsoft products) is better when managed by Microsoft software rather than by the Mac's operating system. Programmable buttons are this mouse's major advantages over Apple's one-button mouse, especially if you use web browsers, publishing, and photo-editing software a lot.
The gray color is reminiscent of the Radio Shack TRS-80, not the slick enclosures of today. Ergonomic design is "handy," however, and at least to my large hand is quite comfortable. The forward/backward rolling of the scroll wheel is uneven to the touch, though the cursor on the screen doesn't seem to show any effects of the bumps felt under the wheel. The preference panel shows the quality of the wireless connection and the power of the battery. I could not find an option showing signal strength or battery strength in the top menubar, however (like the WiFi monitor), and I found opening Systems Preferences followed by the Microsoft mouse preference pane to be a bit inconvenient just to check the mouse.
For some odd reason, in some apps the pre-programmed button functions might go dead, but not for all the buttons at once. It's usually only the loss of the functionality of one button or another.
For me, a heavier feel in the hand would improve its handling along with slipperier glide pads underneath the mouse. Button clicks could be made more substantive and solid. The sideways action of the scroll wheel, for horizontal scrolling, could feel more solid and less flimsy.
I don't know why I experience mouse failure frequently enough to be out shopping for a mouse every other year, but it keeps my mouse purchases low-cost and encourages updating to the latest technology, so I'm not really complaining about build quality that much. I just wish that the mouse (any mouse) felt like a high-quality electronic instrument.

I wish I had read the reviews here before I bought this mouse.
I only paid $30 for it and I still feel ripped off.
Pros:
Good Battery Life.
Cons:
Has to be within 1ft or less of reciever or it won't work
Very Heavy
Wheel button very hard to push, and you have to click 3-4 times to get it to register most of the time.
Small extra front button hard to find with finger or thumb
Larger extra button too easy to push by accident with thumb
Extremely poor tracking, very frustrating
No grip on right side when you have to pick it up with fingertip pressure, so only confortable to slide it around
Wheel has no clicks, only smooth movement and doesnt register half the time. Almost like it looses contact inside the mouse.
Side to side wheel movement only works when it feels like it.
I suggest a nice Logitech mouse

My Logitech MX700 mouse is five-year old and is getting aging and aging. I decided to get a good one to replace it.
Several years ago, I had tried Microsoft wireless mice. not completely satisfactory. This Christmas, I tried its Laser 6000 moon-nite, same feeling. I have decided to stick with logitech.
the MX700 could point to where you want quick and accurate (gamer preference). But this Laser 6000 responses slow and inaccurate. I didn't like it after several days, then I switched it to PC of my daughter & wife. They don't like it either. Same complaint there: slow & inaccurate. When you use it to point to click, you fell the cursor shaking. If you are a gamer, forget this mouse. too bad for you. If you are not a gamer (like my daughter), you must learn how to use it, deal with its slow response & inaccurate point. a simple Microsoft mouse performs much better than this one, IMO.
Microsoft really doesn't know how to make mouse. So many years, so much money spent, it still makes so crappy mouse.
