3 out of 5 stars Functionally reliable, but structurally fragile   July 15, 2008
I've owned this card for just over two years now, and it's served me quite well in terms of reliability in its main purpose: to provide removable data storage for my handheld device (a Palm Treo 700wx). Its transfer speeds are about average, which is fine for an "economy-level" flash storage card such as this one.

The only complaint I have is that when it was only a couple of months old, the outside edge of the card very easily "chipped away" through normal handling and use with the phone. I'm very careful with all my electronics, and have been so with my phone as well; it's never been dropped, etc. But after a few dozen insertions and removals - which I expect any REMOVABLE flash memory card to easily endure - the portion of this card that sticks out (i.e., the part you press to insert and remove it) began splitting, and soon the edge chipped away completely. It seems that the plastic material of which the card case is constructed is just a bit too brittle compared to many others out there. For a product that is used in this way, and therefore must be able to endure a slight bit of pressure on its edge many times over months/years as it serves its purpose, a slightly softer, more flexible material should be used.

Now, to its credit, although the edge of the card was "broken off" soon after I had bought it, the card continued - even to this very day, over two years later - to function with flawless reliability.

So although I can tout this card's service record in the long term, there are better options out there that are equally reliable and inexpensive, but which will not snap on the pressure edge quite so readily. Hence, I give it 3/5 stars.

4 out of 5 stars Kingston 1 GB SD Card - Great Value and Compatibility   June 7, 2008

The Kingston 1 GB SD Card SD/1GBKR is pretty comparable with the Kingston 1 GB Secure Digital Flash Card ( SD/1GB ) (Retail Package). It's a standard SD card in a slower but widely compatible format.

Yes it is on the low end of capacity being sold right now. However, it's such a great value. No need to worry about SDHC compatibility here. Works with all SD devices and computers with appropriate memory card readers.

The only knock on this card is that it is somewhat slow. However, at this price it's still great as a spare.

So if you have a really high end camera you will want to spend more for a bigger one. But if you need an extra memory card for your Wii, digital camera (most point and shoot Canons and Nikons) or PDA, this is a good one to get.

Enjoy!

1 out of 5 stars DEAD CARD   May 12, 2008
We purchased this card just a month ago... Wanting a fresh card for the birth of our third child. For just ten dollars, we thought it was quite the find!!! Yesterday, after over two hundred pictures taken the card died. At first I thought it was my camera, but other cards worked in it. In a panic I took the card to the local grocers, where they have a digital photo kiosk... Said the device didn't detect anything. And when attempting to upload the images to my computer... Same thing! Heart broken I attempted to find a solution online... And though I haven't tried it yet -- some people have had some luck (with this card) by taking it to a profecional. From what we have learned, after taking the card in most ppl were able to salvage 20-80% of their images. Defently worth a try. BAD BAD CARD

5 out of 5 stars Rip off   January 14, 2008
I ordered these to go with digital picture frames. I ordered a total of 3, at about $3.50 a piece. Great deal right? Amazon was advertising shipping discounts. Well, this particular business was not involved in this offer and I was not informed of this until, I received my shipping e-mail with $18.00 in shipping charges. I could have driven my car to Target or Walmart and paid less including the cost of gas then it did for me to order them on line.
