Must have for DS. Perfect except I had to download software for it to work,I thought it came with it? Maybe not?

Do not buy any r4 that says r4 - II or r4 upgrade since those are fakes. I just received a r4 today from amazon and it's the real deal. It has no problems so far and I'm satisfied.

Despite people saying that version 3 is micro sd hc card compatible it is not . i bought two R4s and two 4 gig sandisk micro sd hc cards with them. After a day of frustration and looking i found that Micro sd hc cards are incompatible and had to go buy to 2 regular micro sd cards ... So save your self some money and don't buy Micro sd High Compacity cards for use in R4s.

This is a great product, and with great potential for those who are interested in games that are "off the beaten path". Homebrew applications and shareware games have a home on the DS with having to license through Nintendo and publish through a game manufacturer. What is also great is that it lets you store dozens of game roms to play, without lugging your cartridges around, and changing cartridges. There are also built-in cheat codes for many games, and that is also useful if you like that sort of thing. The downside is that you can download and play games without paying for them, which is wrong. However, I have used this ability to test drive games, and this has led me to purchase games that I otherwise might have overlooked, and to pass over games that I might have bought and regretted. Bottom line, it is important to respect the intellectual property rights of those who design and produce these games, the cost of doing so are often enormous. Just like you, these folks have a right to make a living, and if you don't buy their games you are taking away their livelihood. In short, this is a great product, but please use it ethically.
