Virus detection and notification.

Quarantine potentially infected objects.

Using the Internet safely and securely

Secure surfing. The solution analyses web pages and blocks potentially malicious web-based content. It also blocks pop ups and ads, which are not simply irritating: virus writers often use ads to install Trojans that steal your confidential data or give the Trojan's owner access to your computer.

Privacy Control. Many malicious programs attempt to locate and harvest user IDs and passwords for online bank accounts, auctions, shops, email, payment systems, chat rooms, online games and etc from Windows Protected Storage. Kaspersky Internet Security monitors and blocks all attempts to collect and forward your confidential data from this storage area.

Protection from phishing. Kaspersky Internet Security filters out phishing emails and protects you from accessing websites run by phishers who use social engineering to fool you into sharing your banking or online payment information.

Parental Control. Parents can protect their children from online predators by creating blacklists of individual websites, as well as identifying categories of forbidden content such as drugs, pornography and so on. These lists can be customized by user type for children, teens or adults. In addition, parents can manage their children's Internet experience by limiting the amount of time they spend online.

Anti-virus protection and more

Protection from all of today's Internet threats. Kaspersky Lab combines three protection technologies to protect you against viruses, Trojans, worms, keyloggers, rootkits and other threats. This means that you are safe from spyware, adware, pornware, crimeware and anything else today's cyber criminals invent.

Firewall. The inbuilt personal firewall provides new generation protection from intrusions and data leaks. The default settings for popular applications control network and Internet activity using the IDS/IPS to prevent hackers from taking over your computer or stealing your data. Stealth mode allows you to surf safely and invisibly, protecting you from becoming a target for hacker attacks.

Anti-spam protection. The anti-spam module uses a combination of filtration methods to protect you from spam targeting you personally: white and black lists of senders and content, self-modifying algorithms for text analysis, graphical spam analysis and more.

Self-protection. Today virus writers begin their attack on your computer by disabling anti-virus protection. Kaspersky Internet Security is designed to block all attempts to disable protection, leaving you to work and play securely.

Restoring your data and your system

Rollback of malicious changes. Kaspersky Internet Security monitors system and application behavior for suspicious behavior. Once malicious behavior is detected, the process is blocked and any changes caused by malicious code are rolled back. Your system is clean and your original data is intact.

Rescue disk. Creating a rescue disk is quick and easy using the built in wizard in Kaspersky Internet Security. If your computer is ever attacked by a virus, you can restore and disinfect your system right away by yourself using the rescue disk you created even if the operating system has been damaged.

5 out of 5 stars Very good security software   July 17, 2008
I evaluated the trial version of KIS 7 after my Trend Micro (Vista) security suite that i was using began shutting down component after component and received zero help from their customer support. I was very satisfied with KIS 7, given that I have enough technical knowledge to configure it the way I want. The parental controls need some work, but everything else is rock solid as far as I can tell. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for a brand new computer user, but if you know someone who has some tech knowledge this suite is well worth the money, they constantly score the top detection rates.

1 out of 5 stars Danger! Danger!   July 14, 2008

Downloaded KIS7 because previous subscription was expiring. During load it said to remove old K product first (why didn't the installation program remove it?) After tedious and time consuming process it finally loaded. Then it said database is obsolete (over one year old). Why didn't it download the current database? When I clicked the button to update, it said the site could not be found. The product shut off all access to the network (Internet, email, LAN). I disabled all the protection, still no access to the net.

Then I tried to remove the program; it wouldn't let me! Other programs on my computer ran, but KIS7 wouldn't let itself be removed (isn't that what a virus does?). Then I tried to restart. KIS wouldn't let me restart! At the risk of really screwing things up, I had no alternative but to cut power! I crossed my fingers that my computer still ran. Low and behold, KIS7 was gone, and I had access to the net. But now I don't have any anti-virus protection!

Apparently "customer service" is best found on K's forum. The "expert" said not to use the standard MS removal program, but to use K's special program (why didn't the download instructions say that?). Then he said to create a "GSI log" which requires a tool from...the internet. But wait...KIS7 prevents me from having internet access!!!

What a nightmare! A day later, I am far worse off than I was yesterday at this time. I use my computer for work, not to troubleshoot someone's lousy software! I thought I was being proactive by renewing two weeks early. Not sure what to do now except find an AVS that works and try to get a refund from K or the credit card company.

Moral of the story: I should have read the Amazon reviews rather than rely on magazine reviews!

5 out of 5 stars Freed from Symantec.   July 13, 2008
This product installs without a glitch, works as designed and is to date less intrusive than Norton/Symantec or McAfee. It offers security and protection without creating a bigger problem on your system than it is preventing. Very happy to be free of Symantec after 10 years of ongoing application problems.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty good but poor (next to none) customer support.   July 7, 2008
My new HP notebook with Vista64 came preloaded with Norton Antivirus. I updated and activated the software, rebooted and was rewarded with the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. HP tech support suggested that I uninstall Norton and use something else. I went out an purchased Kaspersky and I had initial problems installing beacause of Norton not being completely uninstalled. I managed to get it working after getting my own self help by reading postings on the internet and Kasperskys self help page. There is a Norton uninstall tool to clear the registry. Anyhow... I had other issues such as windows not loading the desktop etc... No tech support from Kaspersky. There is NO RESPONSE from their email support program,so you are ON YOUR OWN. I suspect that the company is not doing well, so shut down their email support staff. Once you finally get it up and running, it is great.
