I LOVE THIS COMPUTER SECURITY PROGRAM-MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN WINDOWS LIVE OneCare! Hats off to CA development team. August 18, 2008 A few months ago, when I purchsed this title along with Windows Vista, noticing a security breech on one of my other computers due to Windows Live OneCare, I bought this product, and love it for all it's worth. Not only does it cover viruses, but it also does a real good job at covering spyware and adware too. Because of this, the "over 3000 pieces of spyware it reported" these pieces had been quarantined and deleted off my systems, and I will no longer go back to using Windows Live OneCare ever again. This detected most viruses/spyware, that Windows Live OneCare, didn't even realize or understand about. The only thing I had installed, but am not running from this suite, is the Firewall, as I currently am using the temporary Windows Firewall for Vista, and this one helps immensely too. Their firewall made my computers load VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY...(etc)SLOWLY! OTher than the spyware and virus scanning software, they also have a website detector, that I don't know what the h.e.(double hockey sticks) it's used for, but I'm running it. It tells me if the site is low risk and prone to infection or whatnot. This suite of products also includes Parental Controls and a few other things, but the Parental Controls are too hard to use and manage.
If you're looking into this $10,000 warranty or the rebate-forget it, unless you've bought other hardware within a certain time limit-unlike all the other years when I was able to get it without buying any other hardware. Long story.
HORRIBLE SOFTWARE. SHOULD BE A 0 STAR FOR THIS August 11, 2008 My computer has crawled to almost a stop since installing this horrible software. It takes forever to boot up now, and several boots are required to get it fully function.
The software attempts to access its update site every time you reboot. Problem is, half the time the firewall blocks the software from accessing its own site. And when it does access it, it returns a message that the files can't be updated.
Consequently, I am constantly being warned by the software that it's out of date. Of course it is. It can't find the files to update it. And while it tries to find those files, it just slows down my other applications to a crawl. You can tell it to look for those files every 30 days, but then it nags you with the out-of-date software messages.
My Firefox and Thunderbird are blocked access by the firewall. I must turn off CA Firewall to go online. I've added the programs to the allowed list dozens of times, but it still blocks them the next time I reboot.
This is the most irritating piece of software on my computer. I wish I had not wasted the $70 for it.
Don't use this if you have Vista July 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The license for this software allows installation on three computers. I installed it on 2 XP computers and 1 Vista computer. The XP computers seemed to work fine for a few days, but after that they both really started to bog down, to the point that my 4 year old complained. Also there several were unexplained random crashes.
That was livable compared to what happened to my Vista computer. The install seemed to go well, there was one error message that did not seem serious. After that it went downhill fast. Immediately the computer slowed to a crawl. Programs that usually load nearly instantly were taking much longer. The internet connection on this compter is usually very good, also slowed to a crawl.
When I tried to uninstall the software it gave me numerous messages stating I did not have the user rights to uninstall, even though I was logged in as the administrator. Several registry keys were locked and I could not unlock them, so when I tried to reinstall the software it told me I could not because it could not reset the registry keys that it had locked. I ended up doing a system restore, which seemed to be OK at first, but again went downhill since the software performed only a partial uninstall.
I ended up reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling Vista and everything else again.
As a bit of background, I have been taking care of about a dozen computers at my office for 13 years. I am no stranger to installing and unistalling software.
I would stay away from this software.
The Best for your PC June 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the best for your pc, especially if you are on high speed internet. Don't leave your pc without this program or you might as well kiss your pc goodbye. I have had this product for three years now and it is way better than any of the programs that come with your new pc to protect it. I will stick with this brand.
Best I've seen. May 1, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've been using CA for two years now. I've seen it remove bugs that products like Norton and McAfee never knew existed on the PC. I've rarely seen anything that it could not remove, and generally when it could not, it was because Windows was beyond help.
