Amazon.com Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines places you in the command of one to six soldiers (known as, naturally, the commandos), all with their own sets of skills, strengths, and weaknesses. The game throws a monkey wrench into standard real-time strategy conventions by eschewing such typical features as resource accumulation and unit creation. Pyro Studios and Eidos Interactive, in changing the way real-time strategy games are played, have molded Commandos: BEL into a far more tactical and strategic game than its competitors in the genre. Featuring 24 World War II-based missions, which take place in a variety of locations--including deserts, dams, and snow-covered terrain--Commandos: BEL offers a wide variety of mission objectives, with game play emphasizing the dynamics between the six commandos. For instance, Tread's skills lie in driving, Spooky carries disguises and spy equipment for infiltration missions, and Fins works best in the comfort of water. Stealth techniques dominate most missions; a handy line-of-sight display confirms whether your commandos are hidden from view. In some missions, alerting enemy guards could prove costly. In others, though, offensive tactics provide the greatest--and easiest--success. The diverse strategies employed in Commandos: BEL create a unique and rewarding gaming experience. --Doug Radcliffe

Excellent Game August 19, 2008 This is an excellent 2D war game. 3D games sometime give me a headache. Two thumbs up. I did notice a bug in one of it's missions where I couldn't escape even after finishing the mission.
After 6 yrs, I still love it. March 15, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It has been 6 yrs ago since the last time I played it. I finished this game and you know, its passion is still remain in me until now.
I can recall exactly how my characters, have ventured with me through out a long distance. About mission 14, when I group all of them to the boat and escape to the sea, their HP are just enough for survival. What a remarkable game. The only game could draw my passion. 6 yrs ago just like yesterday. :)
How it works May 13, 2006 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
To the guy who posted this only works on 95 and 98 only, don't install it, it will not install but copy the commandos folder (the fold that has all the game, not the install stuff) to your hard drive and run the "commandos.exe" then u should have no problems, cuz it works fine on my computer
EDIT:When you insert the CD, the install menu should show up. Close that.
Then open "my computer" in there you should see your CD in your D drive called "COMMANDOS_EARLY" or "COMM_BEL" or what ever depends on the verisons
Right click that and select "Explore"
Once in the folder you should see an AOL, COMANDOS, CPATROL, DEMOS, DIRECTX, DXMEDIA, EREG, INSTALL, MANUAL - Folders
Select the commandos folder and drag it to your desktop.
Once your computer has copied the commandos folder to your desktop, open it and right click "commandos.exe" and select "properties" then in there, there should be two tabs "general" and "compatibility" select "compatibility" and click on the box that says "Run this program in compatibly mode for:" and then set it to windows 98.
And after you're done with everything close everything and double click the "commandos.exe"
Doesn't work with WINDOWS XP August 20, 2005 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
The Game is good I have played before but the installable in this CD will not work any version of windows other than 95 and 98. This is crap... I dont know how many people are using 98 Windows still, my purchase is waste as I can't change OS for this.
Very Impressive January 2, 2003 If your looking for a game that will keep you thinking for hours on end, then Commandos is the game for you. This game may follows the same way as other RTS games but the way it's set up is truly unique. All of your men have to make it out alive. If even one of them dies, it's all over. The challenge is really good to. It took me over a hour to figure out some the early missions. Definitely a game that you won't get bored with.
