2 out of 5 stars A hodge-podge of dated material   February 6, 2007
When this book first came out, though disorganized and overpriced, I thought it one of the Dietels' better efforts since it showed genuine enthusiasm for the subject and a sampling of all of the technologies involved in E-Business programming. But now, it is just a hodge-podge of outdated information that does not give enough detail to be helpful. Instead, if you are a newcomer to the technologies in this book and to web programming in general, you are going to need several books to replace this one book. Take a look at the Listmania entitled "My Favorite Web Development and Design Books" for a place to start. This is an excellent set of books that will get you started. It's a recent list - it was only created in December 2006 - so the books are all up-to-date. The creator of this list is obviously a Wrox Press fan, but that's OK since Wrox prints some great and accessible books on web programming and e-commerce. Go to Google and type in the Listmania name in quotations and it should be the first returned address in the list.

2 out of 5 stars disappointing   August 2, 2006
A collection of tons of information! Too bad it is put together in such a poor organizational fashion. Difficult to follow from start to finish.

Also, I'm not sure what the deal is with "Shiny" pages, but this text is printed on pages that are so shiny that reading it was a challenge. I had to hold it at just the right angle to prevent intrusive glare.

I will be a while before I purchase a book of this type online without checking it out in a book store before hand.

4 out of 5 stars Very Resourceful...   November 27, 2005
This book is very resourcefull. It shows you various web scripting languages, provides examples and sample questions. If you are not familiar with scripting language this can be a starting point for you.

1 out of 5 stars skips needed information   October 16, 2005

The book wastes your time talking about what is on the Internet (and what the Internet is - hello, the year is 2005!) instead of teaching you how to program for it. It is not a programming book but an extensive advertisement for off-the-shelf programs and various websites. The CD does not contain the information indicated in the book, nor does the website. I attempted to contact them about this, but received no answer. I have enjoyed other Dietel books, but this one really falls short of their standard. You better know VBscript or JavaScript before attempting to use this text.

The CDs that come with this book don't work with Windows XP or other modern operating systems. The content is outdated and the book should be removed from the shelves!
