Product Description SBT-USC6M Adapter Cable is perfect for use with serial devices that you would want to convert to USB. This unique cable allows you to use bridge/connectivity between the Universal Serial Bus (USB) and Serial Port Interface. The USB PDA/Serial Adapter provides you with an external serial (DB-9 male) Plug-n-Play connection for use with computers, notebooks, and hand held computing devices that support USB. The PDA/USB Serial Adapter has a standard type A USB plug. This USB PDA/Serial Adapter provides PDAs, digital cameras, modems, and ISDN terminal adapters with high quality serial connections at a data transfer rate of over 500 Kbps. This makes the USB interface transparent to serial peripherals, allowing them to easily interface with USB computers. It eliminates the setup hassle found with traditional serial port connections. This device also supports energy saving suspend and resume operations

No vista drivers September 8, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I tried to use this with a Vista/64 box. There are no vista drivers for it, and none available from the web. The 64 bit drivers on the disk do not work with Vista; the XP drivers do not work with Vista/64.
Works just as Amazon.com described - Nifty! September 5, 2008 Desperate, I managed to locate this product on Amazon.com, and after consulting a couple of tech-type friends, decided to give it a try.
Net result: problem solved!
My "ancient" Palm IIIxe has a cradle that requires what I now know to be a serial connection to a computer. I thought all computers had these corresponding connections - not so. My new desktop has only USB connections. Hrumph.
My Palm has been an orphan for several months, but this spiffy little cable has joined my dusty old Palm cradle and my shiny new computer, allowing me to once again sync all of my handheld data with the desktop. Huzzah!
If your older Palm machine can't connect to your new computer, this cable might just solve your problem, too.
The other reviewers are correct: there's scant info of any sort in the "no-brand" package, and the mini CD was useless. It did nothing as far as I could tell.
My installation: I connected the cable to a USB port, and Windows Vista immediately began "installing" the cable. It automatically searched online at Windows Update (always scary) and apparently found an appropriate driver. It downloaded and installed the driver all on its own, and in a matter of seconds, my new cable was ready to connect to my old Palm cradle. Voila. :)
Bottom line: Works just as advertised, hasn't whipped across the room and hurt anyone, nor has it exploded, nor laughed at my poor spelling and typing, nor offended me in any way!
Shoddy product June 24, 2008 I give this product 1 star for the following reasons: * Driver CD was updated in 2003, 5 years ago. The included drivers don't even work with Windows XP, let alone Vista. * No URL for the web site to download newer drivers. If you look on the CD to find the manufacturer (it's not on the packaging), then do a Google search, you can find some newer drivers to download and install. * Once newer drivers are installed, the device is identified correctly. However, it still failed to work for my uses, b/c the serial software I was using needed to be able to query the serial port for a Baud rate (pretty standard requirement for serial communications), and the cable or driver doesn't support that. I realize this product may work for other uses, but it didn't for mine.
I've used a different USB to Serial cable for the same use, and it worked fine - my advice is to spend the money on a better one from a reputable manufacturer.
I was eventually able to solve my problem another way without using this product; fortunately TigerDirect was courteous and helpful when returning it.
Works w/Vista, docs & support are pitiful February 2, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
The product packaging and accompanying software looks shoddy--no brand name, or contact information of any kind; not even a web site or a copyright notice. The mini-CD directory is skimpy and confusing in regard to Vista installs. When something didn't work, I finally discovered email by searching for the purchased product on the web--the email response was unhelpful in the extreme.
HOWEVER, I figured out the problem (another program was trying to use the same port), and in general Vista had no problems with installing and managing the device. In summary, it does exactly what I needed it to do, and so far with no problems.
Great November 30, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Product worked with my window XP desktop and with my Laptop(vista) great product and was shipped on time. I did email a tech at sabrent to verfify weather it would work with vista or not and response was fast.
Thank you
