Amazon.com Product Description Are you serious about improving your game and having more fun on the course? Turn to the Sonocaddie XV2, a personal golf GPS navigator that accurately reads the distance between any two points on a course. Not only does this help you hit better approach shots while avoiding sand traps and water hazards, but it also lets you spend more time concentrating on your swing and less time worrying about the accuracy of your guesses. It's the perfect accessory for the ultimate game of inches.
The palm-sized device fits easily in a shirt pocket or golf bag. | The Sonocaddie XV2 employs an advanced, high-tech GPS satellite system to measure the yardage between your lie and various hazards, so you always know what you're up against. As an alternative, you can determine the distance from your lie to the green, even without a clear line of sight. And golf fanatics will love the driving distance function, which tells you how far you cranked the ball off the tee. Not only is this fun for bragging rights, but it's also a valuable stat that reveals whether different course terrain and weather conditions are affecting your play.
The XV2 calculates the distance from your lie to the green. | The Sonocaddie XV2 is intuitive and user-friendly, with a straightforward interface that allows you to generate new course coordinates or edit existing coordinates in a matter of seconds. It's also easy to access information about other courses by visiting Sonocaddie's website, which offers the capacity to upload or download course data for free. Once you're on the course, the Sonocaddie's digital scorecard takes over, automatically calculating your total score with the simple touch of a button. The Sonocaddie even lets you share information about your favorite courses with other players via the included data cable. It may even help you win a few friends before you step onto the first tee. The benefits of the Sonocaddie XV2 are legion: It eliminates the hassle and cost of hiring a caddie; it provides accurate, unimpeachable info; it saves time on the course by calculating the distance for you, so you don't have to locate yardage markers; and its small enough to fit easily in your pocket or golf bag. The XV2, which runs for up to 10 hours on three AAA batteries, measures 2.2 by 4.05 by 1.08 inches (W x H x D). Great little golf GPS July 18, 2008 I've used the Sonocaddie on two courses -- my home course and another public course nearby. I found the distances downloaded off their site were accurate. It is fun being able to measure how far your drives go on each hole as well.
My only criticisms:
1. you need a windows PC for downloading course info. I have two macs now, and thankfully I was able to resurrect my old PC specifically for this purpose.
2. the characters on the main hole screen are a bit small.
Other than that it's a great deal. and it has helped my game tremendously knowing exact distances. Shot under 80 three times since I got this device!
Incomplete July 5, 2008 I have had my Sonocaddie for about 3 days and can't get it to download any courses! I can log in to the website, but that's about as far as I got. The instructions are fuzzy and incomplete for those who aren't computer savvy. The frustration is that I ordered the unit to use over the 4th of July Holiday, and when I ran into problems, upon contacting Sonocadie I found they were closed for the week due to the holiday. Not much help here. I did however get to log in and when I found the course I play about 40% of my rounds at wasn't mapped, so I sent in a request to "get er done". Well, the response was that it isn't in their GPS base, and they can't plot the course, but that I could do it with my hand held unit (which I can't get to work). So, why would I pay to do it myself? So now what? Well, I am hoping to be able to return the unit for a refund. The lessons learned are that if I have to go through this kind of expense and frustration just to of get accurate distance, I'll stick with sprinkler heads and yardage markers and instead of GPS, use the money on lessons or equipment that you can really use without a computer!!!
just buy the thing June 14, 2008 this thing rocks, very easy to use, i sent in a request to add a scorecard to a course download and they did it in 3 days! Screen is easy to read in all light conditions and Im getting about 7 rounds out of each set of batteries.
Very Cool Golf GPS May 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Sonocaddie XV2 is a great little GPS. Does everything you want it to do, and the best part is no membership fees, etc. The only thing they could improve upon is the download process. It seems a bit more cumbersome than it could be. Other than that I love it and recommend highly.
Disappointed January 21, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
The Sonocaddie was recommended because of its good battery life, which it has. It's easy enough to use and is very useful on the course. However, course availability is very poor. They do not have my home course mapped, and tell me it is not going to happen unless I map it myself. What's worse, many good Florida and Hawaii courses are not mapped. I have no use for it and plan to return it if it's not too late.
