Product Description The Mio DigiWalker C230 is a stylish and pocket-sized navigation device equipped with updated, preloaded US maps on internal memory, plus text-to-speech voice prompts. The Digiwalker talks to you as you drive and lets you keep your eyes on the road. The turn-by-turn navigation uses street names and landmarks as well as distance measures, eliminating any possible confusion as to where to go. For example, instead of saying "Turn right in 200 feet," the Mio c230 will say "Turn right on Broadway in 200 feet." The C230 requires no additional map data, and it's ready to use right out of the box! It should be good, but I am not sure. I bought it for a gift June 23, 2008 It should be good, but I am not sure. I bought it for a gift
Mio c230 GPS June 16, 2008 I received this GPS as a gift. Having never owned a GPS device before my wife didn't want to break-the-bank with an initial purchase into this market. On the whole, this is a pretty decent device. It can be difficult to navigate thru the menus while you're on the road and the battery life isn't all that great either, but it got me to where I needed to go and for the price ... it's a really good deal.
So why did I give it a rating of only 2-stars ??? It's because of the lack of customer support. There's a glitch in the software. When the powers that be in the U.S. Gevernment changed the Day-light savings times the Mio software wasn't able to handle this. I didn't notice this until well after the device was purchased because I received it in January.
I've contacted Mio about this and have been told that they are aware of the problem. I asked if there was a "fix" that would be available, I was told there would be a fix but that they didn't know when it would be available.
And when I did speak with the Mio CS, they made it seem like I was being bothersome asking about when an update would be made available.
So I have a unit that has a software problem and you would think that it would be a fairly easy update but the company just doesn't know when the update will be available to its customers.
Bottom line, Good device ... Bad customer service.
good but with problems June 9, 2008 For ~$130 bucks it is worth. It comes with TTS. You can even hack it, although I did not do it (yet). Things can be improved: Sometime it can't get signals for up to minutes; Route calculation is not correct sometime, even wrong occasionally; Interface/menu can be better interactive or with more options; Battery runs off quickly; Overall, it is a good cheap GPS.
A Lot in a Small Package June 9, 2008 This unit performs well in terms of accuracy - I dialed in corrdinates to a place out in the middle of nowhere and it got me within 10 feet. Despite its smallish size, the display is bright and easy to read; the "night mode" inverts the colors for easier viewing at night. There are also many different ways the unit can display maps, zooming in, out, different angles, even 3-D modes.
The c230 Locks in after less than a minute. The touch screen is small but still useable even with my fat fingers. I do use a stylus though, when entering text. The sound quality from the voice and selection sounds are clear and distinctive even for my half-deaf ears.
Two complaints: One is that the users' manual is somewhat vague in covering all functions and features. There are a lot of them. It actually recommends finding your way around by trial and error. That can be frustrating when you're in a moving vehicle. I have yet to find some of the functions, albeit I've only spent about 1.5 hours toying with it.
My main gripe is the map itself. It can't find addresses very well. It will not accept my girlfriends address, or a theater downtown. It can get me close, but not exact. It can find my address, though.
All in all, I'd say hardware and features are very well executed, especially at this price point. Please find my girlfriend's address, though, so she'll stop lauging at me!

Wish I hadn't purchased this GPS June 7, 2008 I purchased this GPS through Radio Shack in December. Within two weeks it was freezing repeatedly. They replaced it without question and it worked fairly well for a few months (although with the bizarre routes you can read about in other reviews). Then, once again, it began having problems. This time it loses signal frequently and guesses where it is. The GPS races ahead, goes straight when I have turned, and has made itself worthless, instead of just annoying.
If you can't do better, forget GPS.
