great buy July 27, 2008 Bought this unit because I wanted a basic GPS. two of my siblings own this exact same model, and my father owns the 250 (he needed maps for Canada) and thus far they all have worked great. Got the updated (2008) maps for free from Garmin's website (Maybe because I bought the unit within a certain time frame? I do not know for sure) Whereas my dad has to pay for them (he bought his much earlier) I have found a few errors in the map data, one of the points of interest was out in the middle of a field, according to the 200, but I knew full well it was 2 miles in the other direction.
Also, I have not figured out what the SD slot can be used for, new vehicles had to go onto internal memory, as did the additional Mapping data, meaning that I had to delete the extra languages in order to make room (not that I needed them) but it was a bit of a hassle, and makes the SD slot seem useless. All in all, it works great, and it's affordable.
great product July 26, 2008
i'll never be lost again. it is a great product to have with you when you hit the road. i'll never be without it. you just have to have it. the good thing is you don't have to spend a lot to get it.
garmin 200 July 26, 2008 IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM! EVEN MY WIFE KNOWS HOW TO GET AROUND IT IN NO TIME AT ALL . She hates maps. I had a nuvi 350, extras I didn't need.($350)and flip-up antenna a nuience. The 200 has most of the same features and no external antenna ,but the price for updates is way to high !!($70) No updates for me. WAKE UP GARMIN!!!
Great bang for the buck July 24, 2008 I helped pick the Garmin Nuvi for purchase by our company in order to provide staff with a more efficient way of making field visits; the goal being to reduce the amount of mileage and time incurred by faulty online directions or poorly planned trips. So far, I've been very impressed with accuracy of maps/directions, quick response time and especially the battery life.
For the price, this unit provides great navigational capabilities. The Nuvi is pretty stripped down, but I don't think anyone needs a lot of bells and whistles to fool around with when they're supposed to be paying attention to driving. In response to one post that stated it does not come with a wall-charger - I agree that would be a downside, but I have found that plugging it into my computer with a USB cord works perfect for charging the GPS away from the car.
Great Basic GPS!!! July 24, 2008 I Purchased 9 of these for a small fleet of Service Electricians. They have all told me "wow I couldn't have found that job with out this thing" and "I don't get lost any more". I am very satisfied with this purchase. Thank you Garmin!
