An SD memory card slot is provided for expansion software, such as a points of interest database, media files and electronic guides (see below). The flip-up antenna includes an MCX-type connector for connecting the unit to an external GPS antenna. Meanwhile, a powerful built-in speaker resides on the back of device. A built-in lithium ion battery will give you for to eight hours of battery life, depending on use. In addition to an AC charger, the unit also ships with a 12-volt power adapter for vehicle charging, as well as a windshield suction cup mount. Combined with detailed maps of the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico the nüvi 350 provides automatic routing, turn-by-turn voice directions, and touchscreen control-- making it easy to find your way anywhere. Plus, the unique "text-to-speech" feature calls out turns by street name, and you can choose from either 2D or 3D mapping perspectives when you're viewing your route on the display. Additionally, the nüvi 350 is compatible with Garmin's GTM 10 FM TMC traffic receiver*, which allows users to avoid traffic tie-ups by simply pushing a button that will calculate a new route. The built-in "Travel Kit" offers an MP3 player, an audio book player from Audible.com, a jpeg-format picture viewer, a world travel clock with time zones, a currency converter, a measurement converter, and a calculator. In addition to the included travel tools, additional software add-ons are available, such as the Garmin Language Guide, with data provided by Oxford University Press. This software suite contains a multilingual word bank, phrase bank, and five bilingual dictionaries. The multilingual word bank and phrase bank supports nine languages and dialects, including American English, British English, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, European Portuguese, European Spanish, and Latin American Spanish. Now you can look up and translate more than 17,000 words or 20,000 phrases per language -- right in the palm of your hand. Through the unit's text-to-speech interface, users can get a spoken pronunciation of each entry in the word bank, along with gender and part of speech information. Another useful add-on software package, the Garmin Travel Guide, is loaded with information provided by Marco Polo. These guides put in-depth travel information such as reviews and recommendations for restaurants, tourist attractions, and more at your fingertips. The software allows you to navigate to an address or search points of interest-- places like hotels, restaurants, shopping, and tourist attractions. The nüvi 350 automatically calculates the fastest route and provides voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions along the way. The unit also audibly announces the name of upcoming streets-- letting you keep your eyes on the road while navigating through busy traffic and tricky roadways. And if you stray off course, the nüvi 350 automatically calculates the quickest way to get back on track. *Traffic services available only in select cities where RDS-TMC coverage exists. Great Navigation System July 25, 2008 I recently bought the Garmin Nuvi 350 GPS. It is great. I don't know how I lived without it. So far I have encountered zero problems with it. It is very accurate and the voice is great to let you know when you are approaching a turn. If you get lost easily like me then I definitely recommend this product. It is easy to use and the satellite is fast and reliable. It takes only a few minutes to get setup too!
Great value for money and very reliable July 24, 2008 The Garmin nuvi 350 has been perfect with directions and has recalculated the route quickly whenever I have missed turns. I found its "Points of Interest" database very useful to find restaurants and gas stations on road trips. It is great value for money and very very reliable. However, I have noticed that unless it has power input, the device is unable to catch satellite signal. Anyhow, overall I have found the Garmin nuvi 350 very reliable and would recommend it any day.
Garmin Nuvi 350 is Discontinued July 24, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Consumer alert: The Nuvi 350 is discontinued. I learned this today from a Garmin support specialist, who was trying to help me solve some technical issues. His software suggestion for the remedy is not available from the Garmin website for this model. I called Amazon, who informed me they have not received any notification from the manufacturer about discontinuing this product, therefore, they cannot alert consumers until they do.
It took me 3 hours to download the software. I've spent hours reviewing the PDF manual. Street names are incorrect. Arrival times are way off by hours (the additional software was supposed to correct this.) The most current map will cost an additional $63.99 (DVD). So, I'd say: Buyer Beware!
Perfect...err, almost July 24, 2008 An excellent value for a GPS. It isn't perfect, but then what is! I have noted it seems to want to route me to an address or two (in town) via street names that simply do not exist in that part of town - in other words, it seems to properly identify where to make a turn, but sometimes will incorrectly identify the name of the street to turn onto. As long as you are aware of this quirk, then it works just fine. For "on the road" use it seems to work perfectly. I would recommend this unit to anyone who wants a good solid value.
Great device - why are the maps two years old??? July 24, 2008 I purchased this one month ago and love it. Family member purchased one 2 weeks ago and loves it. But why is the mapping information two years old? The garmin website offers free download of 2009 version but it takes about 4 hours (NOT an exaggeration) to download. In this era of just-in-time inventory, have these things been sitting on a shelf for two years?
