Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description
An excellent tool for foresters, surveyors, geologists, and many other professionals, the Suunto KB-14 handbearing compass combines extreme accuracy with an easy-to-use, quick-working design. The compass offers such features as a reading accuracy of 1/3 of a degree, 1/2-degree graduation, a 0-to-360-degree reverse scale, an adjustable declination scale for increased accuracy in areas with magnetic variation, and a built-in, maintenance-free light source that helps the compass function in total darkness. In addition, the compass's flat, compact aluminum housing has no protruding or adjustable parts, so you needn't worry about damaging the compass during transport. It's even water- and corrosion-resistant, making it a great choice for jobs in wet climates.

The KB-14's card--which pivots on a polished sapphire tip--is immersed in a special dampening fluid that provides vibration-free, smooth movement. In addition, the liquid remains clear and its viscosity low under all conditions. Additional features include a permanent anti-static treatment, a horizontally restricted lens aperture that automatically centers the eye on the optical axis (thus eliminating parallax), a cotangent table on the rear for easy reference, and a threaded camera tripod adapter for steady and precise measurements. Finally, the KB-14, which measures 2 by 3 by 0.6 inches (W x H x D) and weighs a mere 4.05 ounces, comes with an imitation leather storage case that's both saltwater- and UV-resistant.

Product Description
The KB-14/360R/D hand-bearing compass is an excellent tool for foresters, surveyors and geologists and many others. It features reciprocal scale & adjustable declination and is designed to combine extreme accuracy with ease and speed of operation. With a built-in, maintenance-free light source the compasses can be used even in total darkness. The cards of these compasses are immersed in a special dampening fluid that ensures vibrationless, smooth movement. They are pivoted on polished sapphire tips. The veering assembly is to all intents and purposes subject to no wear and the liquid remains clear and its viscosity low under all conditions. Lens apertures of the KB-14 are restricted horizontally by a column, which automatically centers the eye on the optical axis, thus eliminating parallax.
