If you like music, spend more money July 21, 2008 This player seems nice. Good design, small, thin.. but that's the outside. I bought 2 of them at once for my girls and one never turn on and the other , after some resetting procedures during the first month, never woke up again. I just threw $228.00 I'm not an apple fan but next time I'm going for the best (IPOD)
Beware of this product, don't get lured for the price. You always get what you pay for.
So far, so good. July 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had this over a week now and am very impressed with it. It looks and sounds great and does exactly what I want it to do, which is hold a lot of music. Granted I had it filled up in one day due to the size of my music collection, but it is still exceptionally nice. The video, photo and recording features of this work well also.
My complaints so far really don't mean a lot, but are still worth mentioning. For a device that is rechargeable and doesn't take the conventional batteries, it should really come with a charger other than the USB computer cable which is only a few inches long. Some people don't leave their computers on long enough to charge them (4 hours)and when they do, they are usually using the player elsewhere.
The sleek black look is awesome, but it will scratch easily. Buy a case if you buy this. Creative really should add a charger and cheap case in with this as a bundle.
Overall, this is a really good product. It plays music very well, does the photos and videos and has a recorder which could be very handy if you want to blackmail someone.... Or whatever... The UI takes some getting used to, but that's typical... As compared to my Rio Cali that I've been using since 2003, the Zen is awesome. I'm sure there are ways for Creative to make this better and hopefully they will. I give it two thumbs up so far... I will update my review if anything drastic changes...
Wow! It has everything I needed!!!! July 19, 2008 It has everything I needed. mp3 player with Radio, recorder and plays videos. I bought this because of memory slot and found that even without that memory slot it is better than many players. Two bad things about it:- Take 4-5 sec to start up and tic-tac sound of its buttons.
Feature rich for the money! July 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
So I was shopping for a digital music player. Although the Apple iPod products have so much going for it in the way of accessories, I found that the 8Gb nano was small and fairly expensive when compared to the 8Gb Creative Zen.
Overall I like this player. It is very compact with buttons positioned for easy use. It has a lock feature to keep the buttons from being manipulated when not intended. I love that there is an expansion slot for additional memory. It would have been nice that the extra memory be integrated with the players, but it isn't a deal breaker. I tend to keep all my music on the player and load movies to go on the external memory card. I like the FM radio option so I can listen to the radio for news and weather or my favorite morning show. The menu is easy to read and move through. The screen is bright and the resolution for movies and shows is great. Of course, the settings menu allows everything to be adjusted. The software is okay and does the job converting video as needed and synching and organizing music. It certainly could be more user friendly like iTunes.
If I had only two complaints it is that the software integrates with Windows Explorer and doesn't give a whole lot of options. It makes it look more familiar to windows users, but not always easy to use. I also hate that it ships with a 4 inch long USB cable to connect to the computer. Why? How about a more useful cable length? Thankfully, I have other products that came with longer cables, which I can use. I do plan to upgrade the earphones since the player is capable of high quality output and the included headphones are not up to par. I have heard of instability issues with Creative products. So far, I have been spared of any issues.
Overall, I really like the look, size and design of the Zen. I hope that it proves realiable for the long term and hope that the list of accessories grows. I would recommend this if you are looking for a feature rich MP3 player versus an iPod. I plan to download my music from Amazon in the future since it is equivilent in price to iTunes and I don't have to worry about DRM.
The excitement it brings July 19, 2008 I picked this one because it is compatible with downloading library files for audio books. Not all MP3 players can. It is just the most fun and has changed how I listen to music and audio books. I am hooked on audio books and get so excited to add another one to my player. It has great accessories that you can add to this too. I bought two of these one for me and one for my husband, he uses it on his Harley. We joke we are Zen Masters.
