Good GPS system but not without glitches June 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been using this system for about a year now and have found it to be easy and fast to use. I use it at least 5 times a day with my job and have noticed the maps are dated. I also have a garmin nuvi200 and the Roadmate3000t seems quicker and easier to set a destination. I did a software update about 3 months ago and ever since the unit seems to just freeze up randomly as I drive around. It takes a hard reboot the get the unit responsive again. The free months of traffic service worked well but had quite a few false traffic alerts. I recently left the unit in my vehicle on a 105 degree day and the unit will not work on battery anymore. This unit is large but might be good for a GPS beginner. Avoid the updates and keep this bulky unit out of the heat!

Very disappointing, lousy tech support, stay away! September 2, 2007 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This RoadMate 3000T is my third Magellan product I've owned and by far THE most disappointing. I've come to expect good, high-quality products like my original GPS 315 from Magellan that still perform excellently many years since I first purchased it.
In this particular case, not only did the 3000T come with old maps, but it frequently "locks up" making the product unusable. Its an obvious defect that I expected Magellan would handle professionally, courteously, and without hassle. Unfortunately, my experience thus far has been nothing but a hassle just to get a simple warranty repair authorized.
My first phone tech support experience (to inquire about the outdated maps) was abysmal - the person on the other end seemingly did not understand or care about my problem and when escalated it was handled by a very rude 'supervisor'. Perhaps it was merely a language difficulty, but it matters not -- I was left angry and felt "ripped off" by purchsing this product. Its quite obvious that Magellan does not handle its own customer support, and its outsourcing partner cares little to solve problems properly or maintain customer goodwill. Fortunately I did not give up and was able to track down an individual at Magellan's San Diego office who was very professional, caring, and eager to "make things right". My map issue was solved to my satisfaction because this person took the time to hear me out and respond with a customer-centric resolution. Still, it should not have taken such persistence and digging to find someone who was empowered and cared to handle the situation.
My second contact with customer support (1-2 weeks after the first interaction)was via email to address the persistent lockups with anticipation this interaction would somehow be less challenging. Again, that turned out to be a misplaced hope. Other than some requests apparently being "lost" and needing to be resubmitted, I was offered ineffective "solutions" to my problem unit locking up. It seemed to take great effort to convince support to open up a warranty return authorization. My unit was shipped back for repair at my expense and took ~4 weeks for its return. The repaired unit came back repaired and so far seems okay, but getting repair status was nearly impossible. The whole customer service process seems intentionally designed to frustrate! So much for confidence in a brand that I long-held in great esteem...
The product would be relatively easy-to-use if it did not have all the problems I've had so far. I regret buying this Magellan product despite Consumer Report's high ranking and wish I would have opted for a Garmin or TomTom unit. If Buy.Com would have accepted returns after a 14-day window, it would already be gone.
Magellan Roadmate 3000T worked great August 11, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I read some other reviews before I purchased this product and since owning it I have made a few observations of my own. First the navigation system will only be as good as the map which the unit contains. We all know that they are always working on and adding new roads so to keep the accuracy the map must be upgraded. Megellan has a new one hopefully coming out in September. Secondly the user must know and understand how to use the GPS. It is not hard but you must understand it. If you type something incorrectly you will get an incorrect response. Some people said they did not like the buttons around the outside of the unit. If I was holding it in my hands I would and did accidently push one or two but when it is sitting on your dash which is where it is suppose to be then the buttons made it easier to work with. We used the 3000T on a vacation trip from Texas up to Tennessee and the unit worked very very well. It was never without a signal and only twice did it not agree with the road. This was because the roads were new. Because the system will continue to route a path both times it still helped us get to where we needed to go. Using it to type in points of interest was a absolute time and life saver. If you wanted to go to a certain address it would take you there. If you wanted to go to a certainly place of interest (like Andrew Jackson's home)it would take you there. I will never take a trip without it. It worked and worked well.
Good when working and bad customer services July 27, 2007 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I got the device like month ago. It works for about 2 weeks then the system freezes and reset the device didn't make it to work. However, I have to agree that it works well in first 2 weeks. The device is little bigger than regular same 3.5 LCD devices. The physical button makes the device a plus.
I called the customer service and ask for a replacement and they promised me to ship the device out on next business day. so I called them again after 2 days, and you know what, the device still hadn't been shipped yet. I talked to another supervisor there and the guy makes the promise again to ship the device on the next business day. and you know what happen after I called back after 2 days? They told me there is system problem and they can't ship the device until next week. The whole process took like 2 weeks and not sure how long it will last since I don't trust them anymore. Not only the customer representatives lie to me but those supervisors too. They just keep promised you on something they can't do.
