Works, but would go for higher quality unit August 14, 2008 I put one of these in my truck, and my wife's car. The remote start works, the extended range isn't close to what is advertised- even in clear unobstructed view of the vehicle. Pros- Works OK when install is completed. Timer shut off is handy. Keeping the vehicle running feature when you get out and locked is also handy.
Cons- Installation is under rated. The directions are vague in some parts, additional on line searching and phone calls were needed due to mistakes and left out info in the instructions. There have been 2 or 3 malfunctions with my wife's unit that has left the car un-startable for 1/2 hour or so until the unit somehow resets. The range isn't close to advertised distance. I have to be 10 ft away, 'kind of takes the magic out of staying inside on super cold days.
Bottom line- I would look for a higher quality unit. This is really one of the only units I've found that caters to "do it your selfers". Good luck
Could not get it to work March 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Purchased the RS/1200E for my daughter's 97 Honda Civic. Installation took about 5 hours. I took my time and had to go back to their Web site a few times to get things like a wiring diagram for the car, instructions on how to take the unit out of safety mode (not mentioned in the manual), etc. The unit didn't respond to either remote and would not drop out of safety mode. Talked to tech support. Tried the things they suggested. Nothing seemed to help. Fiddled with the antenna wire while pressing Start and the unit suddenly went out of safety mode. Then it wouldn't start. After again fiddling with the antenna and pressing Start many times it suddenly did start. Tech support said it couldn't be the antenna. You wouldn't even need the antenna with the remote close to the unit (it was). Sent the unit and 2 remotes back with a note explaining the issue. Returned the same unit 3 weeks later. No indication anything was tested but I had to assume it was. Hooked it up. No go. Did the 3 step "Testing Remote Starter Output Harness" and eveything worked perfectly. Was told to touch a blue wire to ground and car should start. It did. Touch it again and it should shut off. It did. Told to reset the E-PROM on the unit. I did. Now it's back in safety mode and I can't get it out. Got an RMA to get my money back.
What a disappointment February 13, 2008 The t-harness I purchased with the remote starter did not fit my 2002 Silverado like it said it would. When I finally got everything wired together it worked fine and then after the second or third time using the remote start my "check engine soon" light came on. I found out that the spade connectors did not fit tight enough on the terminals causing the check engine light to come on. I tore the unit back out and got the connectors tight enough to keep the voltage from dropping out on the ignition wires. Now I am finding that my security light comes on when I use the remote start in very cold temperatures. Apparently this is common in lower end bypass modules as the resistance shifts as temperature drops. Bottom line, don't buy Bulldog products!!
Good Product but First Unit was Defective December 28, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I ordered this to replace a BDRS1200 remote starter that had stopped working after about 9 years. The first BDRS1200E worked, but had about a 6' range. This was a suprise, because it was supposed to have twice the range of the 1200, which had at least a 500' range. Seller was wonderful and immediately shipped me a new unit which fixed the problem. NOTES: I would not install one of these without a T-harness. Even then, it can be difficult to properly install the keyless entry. Make sure to test it thoroughly before you button everything up! IMPORTANT NOTE: The manual included does not have any information about SAFE MODE (parking lights flashing when you power up the unit). To get out of SAFE MODE, open the hood to ground out the pin switch, depress the brake pedal and press any button on the remote. This can be quite frustrating if you don't know how to fix it!
Fairly easy to install, lacking range December 18, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I installed this starter myself in a 2006 Hyundai Tucson. The instructions were fairly easy to follow. I found a wiring diagram on their web site for my vehicle, but it wasn't complete. I couldn't figure out the locks or headlights, so I left those disconnected. It's hard to find wiring information on my vehicle, so I don't blame their product. The range of the remote isn't as good as advertised, even with fresh batteries. That's my only disappointment and why I gave it 3 stars.
