This translator serves as a handy speaking tool for international travellers and tourists. It allows the user to cross translate 12 international languages and each language stores 700 commonly used travelling topic sentences. You'll be able to communicate easily and quickly in a foreign country. Simply select the language, topic of conversation, and sentence you would like to speak using the LCD display. The translator will display the sentence in the original language (usually English) and speak the sentence in the desired foreign language. Handheld electronic translators are the modern answer to paper dictionaries. They are smaller, fashionable and you only need one in order to speak many languages! Since this device speaks the phrases aloud, you can be sure you are pronouncing foreign words correctly, making for a more enjoyable holiday or business trip. Words are spoken and displayed and the translator includes 8 frequently required categories: General, Emergency, Entertainment, Sightseeing, Direction, Restaurants, Transport and Hotel. The device also features a world time daily alarm clock and calendar for 24 cities, and the display shows hour, minutes, day, date and month. A built-in data-file stores up to 60 sets of phone numbers (with names) with a password security lock. The translator has an LCD display with adjustable contrast, volume level selection (3 levels), key tone on/off switch, auto power off and display backlight which can be turned off to preserve batteries. I gave this translator a negative review earlier, and it was taken off. I don't know why it was removed, but I find this action really disappointing. Needless to say, I won't be giving any more reviews for Amazon. I notice someone else's negative rating was also removed.
In my opinion, this translator is not worthy. It's features are extremely limited with a set number of trite phrases only.
But the main objection I had is that the voice that speaks the Spanish version is comical-sounding and almost insulting. I would be embarrassed to use it.
Use your money instead to buy a small electronic dictionary. You'll be better off in the long run. It's certainly more versatile.
C'mon Amazon, let's have some intellectual honesty in your reviews. I've deleted all my past reviews. Can't stand dishonesty.
My rating for this "electronic Translator:" 1 star.

This is a really cool machine. It has a lot of phrase that you can look up easily. Then just push a button and it speaks the phrase in a different language. I strongly recommend it to an one that travels to foreign countries.

I bought this translator for my husband because he is going to China on a trip in a few months.This translator offers a great choice of phrases for almost any kind of situation . It is also really easy to use and carry. I would recommend it to anyone traveling overseas. Great buy.
Great Quality For A Very Reasonable Price May 14, 2008

I purchased this translator as a gift for my mother's four week tour of Europe. Over all, she was very happy with the item. Occasionally, she said there were times when she couldn't find how to say a particular phrase, but for the most part, she was thrilled that this one device served her quite efficiently through all of the countries she traveled. She especially liked the verbal pronunciation, the pre-grouped categories of phrases, its small size, & its included alarm clock which allowed her to cut back on bringing one more item. As for me, I certainly appreciated how reasonably priced it was for how well it served my mother on her trip. You can absolutely find better translators but doing so on par of the cost per value of this translator would be difficult. It's a great item for the price.
