5 out of 5 stars A Simple Awesome Skype Phone   August 19, 2008
The Linksys CIT200 Skype phone has worked marvelously with my PC and Skype. I have two laptops, one with XP and one with Vista, so I opted to install it on the XP to avoid any Vista issues. At first I couldn't get it to work, but only because I hadn't installed all the drivers (tip: it'll seem like it's installing the same driver multiple times, but it's really different ones. The PC will automatically begin the "Found New Hardware" stint, even after installing with the CD. Just let it do its thing as many times as it needs to). Once everything was set and I learned how to call out (dial 001, then full number with area code) it was fine. Sound quality is great on both ends with very good reception.

There are a few things to note:
- You can't input contacts on the phone itself. It has to be done via Skype on the PC. You can, however, assign your contacts speed dial numbers (also done using the PC) for easier dialing.
- If you initiate a call via Skype on the PC, you can't hear it on the phone. You have to start off calling via the phone to use the phone, otherwise you'll hear a bunch of beeps when you try to pick up.
- The time on the phone will set itself once hooked up to your PC, so don't stress yourself trying to figure that part out.

It's a very simple phone, so those looking for something more advanced will be disappointed. But for a great internet phone this works just fine. It has a speakerphone, which worked well on the first try, as well as a socket to plug up an ear piece (sorry, no bluetooth). I tried Vonage a year ago (it never worked properly) before learning about Skype's cheap calling rates and simple usage, and ever since getting this phone I have absolutely no regrets.

3 out of 5 stars Doesn't Work Well   August 6, 2008
I bought the same phone as my boyfriend so we could talk on Skype. Although his phone worked just fine mine had several issues that had to be mechanical in nature. Some of the issues I experienced was that it would not let me dial in numbers directly to the phone, I had to save them as a contact and then it would allow me to dial from my phone. It also just sometimes wouldn't work, and sometimes would. It was very unreliable.

These phones seem to be a little flaky, but my boyfriend's phone always worked the correct way even when hooked up to my computer.

4 out of 5 stars Our third one!   July 18, 2008

We currently live overseas and our skype phone is our lifeline back to the US. I just ordered our third Linksys CIT 200 phone. Please bear in mind that one phone was submerged in water and had to be replaced. But for two and a half years - these phones have worked well for us. If you are dropping calls - I would suggest that it is your internet connection. If the phone is not installing - then it may be your operating system. The CIT 200 is a non-VISTA phone. And while there may be better, newer, dual format, and more expensive skype phones out there - the CIT 200 for a windows XP format commputer is the cheapest way to have a cordless skype phone. The negatives that I will say about the phone is that the batteries do lose their ability to hold a charge over time. That is the reason that we have replaced ours about once per year - as even purchasing new rechargeable batteries don't help for too long. So my opinion is a skype compatible phone for less than $4 a month - PRICELESS!

1 out of 5 stars Did not work properly   June 22, 2008

The CIT200 Cordless Interned Telephony Kit for Skype did not work, is not supported by Linksys, and in my opinion, should not be sold. Zero stars!

I should have paid more attention to all the negative reviews out there but thought that with my excellent technical knowledge, I could get the product to work.

1 out of 5 stars Dropped calls. More dropped calls. Return.   May 27, 2008

Linksys tried, you have to hand it to them. They even made the phone look like a regular phone.

Skype, however, does NOT support wireless phones. Every single wireless phone I've tried for Skype has dropped the calls. EVERY single one of them! Every call, you're mid-sentence, and can't go further. The wireless function is simply not supported by Skype, and Linksys won't be able to support you for that very reason.

Verdict: get a USB phone for Skype, like the FRee1 from IPEVO. They are the #1 in Certified Skype phones for a good reason... mac compatible, great echo cancelation, you can travel with it (reliable and sturdy), and they have great customer service (which Skype won't give you, so you have to make sure the manufacturer does)
