Exceeded my expectations June 13, 2008 I was skeptical, but this card actually made a noticeable difference in the image quality from my HTPC. I kept going back and forth between this card and the DVI one and am happy with the decision I made. I would have preferred to use 1366x768 (assuming the DVI card would support it) to be closer to the native resolution, but 1280x720 looks just fine and with this resolution I can cut down on the number of cables running up the wall by using the HDMI switching in my receiver.
As others have said, install was super easy. I have a 720P 42" 9 series that is wall mounted. I didn't even have to take it off the wall to install this card. Here are the steps I took to get everything working properly. 1. Moved the component video card to slot 3. 2. Installed this HDMI card in slot 2 (it has to be in slot 1 or 2 according to the included instructions). 3. Hooked up the cables (HDMI from HTPC and DVD to receiver, then HDMI from receiver to plasma). 4. Switched primary monitor in HTPC from VGA to HDMI(resolution automatically detected 1280x720). 5. Setup Receiver to output all signals at 720p. 6. Adjusted the pos/size on the monitor. 7. Removed all my (now redundant) optical, component and VGA cables after confirming everything was properly working through HDMI. Piece of cake.
The nicest thing about this card was being able to replace many cables with only a few. Inexpensive (under $10) Monoprice cables (3' and 6') worked great for me.
As you should realize from other reviews and information online, make sure your plasma supports this card and that you install it in slot 1 or 2 as stated in the included instructions.
I am completely satisfied with my purchase and because the picture quality was improved and exceeded my expectations, I gave this card 4 stars. I realize that most people take away stars for faults, but that isn't the case here. I suppose for $60, I would have given it 5 stars...
Necessary accessory for this TV March 1, 2008 Um, if you've bought a Panasonic industrial plasma set for home theater viewing, you'd be dumb NOT to get this HDMI input adapter card. With Panasonic's shortage of HD inputs, this is the only option for true HD signal processing that's completely digital-digital. If you are buying one of the TH-series plasma, buy this too!
Works Fine in Series 7 January 30, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I ordered this to install in my TH-50PHD7UY Plasma in order to use the HDMI output from my upscaling DVD recorder as well as the Component input. Installation was easy and it works like a charm, even though it is not advertised to work in the series 7 sets.
WARNING: Does NOT support 1080p January 25, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We purchased this module as a plug-in for our Panasonic High Def Plasma Display, a Professional series 1080p display. After numerous calls to Panasonic Support to find out why we couldn't use the 1080p output from our DVD player, we returned it when Oppo (our DVD manufacturer) told us that the HDMI module didn't support 1080p. What good is an HMI board that doesn't support 1080p in a 1080p display? And what good is Panasonic support when they don't even know their own product line? Save your money; if you have the TH-50PF9UK, use an HDMI-DVI cable.
HDMI input module November 25, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you have a Panasonic series 8 or 9 without an HDMI input...this is the unit to buy. Remove 4 screws from a blank slot, insert module, hook up HDMI and you are up and running (almost). One thing I did find out however, is that you must shut the TV down completly (remove the plug) for a short time and then replug and start up. If you don't do this, the set may not recognize the HDMI input module. This happened to me and the Panasonic help people were stumped as well. By chance, I unpluged the set and when re-powered...everything worked. Enjoy!
