Does not work with vista x64 September 7, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
For some odd reason, this drive does not use the regular mass storage device drivers that most other drives use. Subsiquently there are no 64 bit drivers for it. Its great if you are going to use it in 32bit land, but it is a no-go in Vista or XP x64.
Great for the price! June 18, 2008 When you go online you see this enclosure for $50-$100 like at Best Buy or here on Amazon. This is a really good enclosure for the money. I got mine for $10 and it's brand new. I would buy as much as I could while the price is so low.
Great Design & Great Quality February 17, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've used a lot of different brands of external drive enclosures and this one is by far the best. Most enclosures for 2.5" notebook-sized drives use tiny screws for the ends that are a pain to work with. With the Rocketfish design, you have larger Allen key (hex) bolts in the corners. These are stronger and much easier to use. The bottoms of the bolts have little rubber feet that help the drive run as silently as possible. The drives also stack really well if you have more than one.
The drive kit comes with an honest-to-goodness user's manual. The 4 foot USB cable is plently long. The drive operates entirely from the power coming from the USB port on your computer. For those older computers that may have underpowered USB ports, the cable has two USB plugs at the end. One is for the data transfer and power, and the other is for additional power only, if needed.
For anyone with Windows XP or Vista, the drives are plug & play. A cool blue light shows when the drive is in use. I have several of these Rocketfish drive enclosures (including the larger 3.5" size), and they have worked flawlessly for me.
If you're upgrading the drive in your notebook computer, put the old drive to use as an external drive for extra storage using this enclosure.
REMEMBER this drive enclosure is for older PATA drives (lots of pins) rather than the newer SATA drives (small connector). Most notebook computers sold now are using SATA drives inside.
not really February 12, 2008 i personally don't like this enclosure it is cheaply made and the power connection is very loose and faulty
ERICKMARS October 30, 2007 WORKS GREAT, EASY TO SETUP JUST PLUG AND PLAY RECOGNIZED RIGHT AWAY I LKE THE WAY IT LOOKS
