Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The DVP-NS57P/S DVD player features Precision Cinema Progressive technology, providing sharper images for a better viewing experience. Unlike other DVD players that detect image changes at the Scan line level-Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive (PCP) system detects them at the Pixel level. This results in images closer to the original source data, because separate, optimized algorithms are used to handle the differing Pixel behavior. Separate algorithms are also used to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are free from motion artifacts. Sony's Precision Drive III mechanism is also included, which helps maximize the performance of DVD collections by reading data even on some physically "warped" discs. Other benefits include fast/slow playback with sound, and custom parental control.

4 out of 5 stars Adequate good value   June 30, 2008

It is about time Sony figured out a way of delivering value to consumers instead of assuming the brand name allows the company to charge premium prices for mediocre goods. This DVD player is a fine unit, and delivers the functionality one needs from a secondary DVD player.

5 out of 5 stars Sony DVD player   June 24, 2008
This was given as a gift and the person who received it,said it is an excellent player.

4 out of 5 stars Well worth the price   June 20, 2008
Works fine and well worth the price. Just wish it were a bit smaller in length. It's slim yet longer than most standard DVD players

2 out of 5 stars Bad Product   June 18, 2008
I bought the product because my old DVD player died. The message said it could not read any of the DVD's I put in and I tried a number of different types that is said it would play. Nothing worked. I don't know if I got a defective player or if the model is no good. On the good side, the refund was rather fast. I went to Walmart and bought a different brand instead.

5 out of 5 stars Great Basic Player ~The Best For Analog TV Sets.   May 25, 2008
I got this to use in my bedroom with an old analog set that I do not plan to upgrade. I frist tried an upconverting VCR with it and the picture was all distored. My 20 yr old set needed just a regular DVD.

This DVD player is that and more. It is built well and feels quality. I have watched about 12 hours of movies now and it has worked pefrfect. It also has a lot of extra features. Like play fast and play slow with voice which can be very fun. Lots of searching modes...skip, advances, you name it and this has it.

The best thing is being albe to use and analog set with excellent picture. Hard to find one that is not upcoverting and you don't need that on a 20 year old set.

Great DVD player for the money.
