Does the Job August 30, 2008 My mid-eighties Pioneer CD player -- now used as a bedside player -- has proved to be a better sounding and more reliable machine than a series of inferior-built portables. The only problem with the Pioneer is that there is no volume control for the headphone input, and with a sensitive pair of cans (Grado SR80s) way too loud.
The Koss VC20 Volume Control performs as advertised. It's a simple, lightweight volume attenuator that brings down the volume to a bearable listening level. Please note that it's not an amplifier, which means it's great for dialing down the volume, but is not going to amplify a weak signal. One reviewer here complained that the high-end was degraded as the control decreased the volume. Not so in my experience. It's natural for the high-end to lose some brightness as volume decreases, and is especially a problem for old ears that are losing their ability to hear higher frequencies as decibel level decreases. It sounds fine to me.
This little Koss volume control is a cheap and effective device. After a few months, I'm still satisfied with the purchase.
Koss VC20 Volume Control August 2, 2008 The Koss VC20 Volume Control works very well with the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling Headphones. Great combination.....
Convenient but pricey July 31, 2008 I just needed an extension cable for my Sony headphones that had very short wire length (they connect to my cell phone's hands free cable and that's why they have been made that way), but most of the extensions available are at least 3ft in length. This Koss VC20 was perfect and I also got the added convenience of a volume control. However, at $8.99 (what I paid at the time) they are pricey for what they do. These days you can pretty much buy a cassette/CD walkman for that price! Nevertheless, I am happy with my purchase.
Does the job without being fancy July 27, 2008 First Impression: It looked simple. Too simple. All too often I see good products that are just made overly complicated for their intended purpose, and that's what threw me off for this. It was a cable that plugged in, and you plugged in the output to a spin-lever volume control. It even has a little clip so you can put it on your belt (if your belt is a thin one) or your pocket (assuming you don't wear super-thick jeans).
Usage: Not much to say except that it works. It can even amplify your output by a little bit, or at least it seems to do so when you max the volume on this device. I have had no trouble using it with a variety of sound systems, from MP3 players to computers to full-set-audio-systems.
Product Life: Been a while. I lost track. And they still work. Definitely a plus.
Overall: Finally. Someone made a product that just DOES THE JOB without being more "sophisticated" than it needs to be. My only complaint is that the cable is a bit short for some applications, though if you're just hooking it up to an MP3 player and a headset, this would work wonders.
Excellent! July 15, 2008 A very handy little gadget especially when your working out and you'd normally be fumbling for the volume control on your arm band.
