Very nice bass! October 11, 2008 The bass in these headphones are not very overpowering and meld well with the mids and highs.
It comes with 3 fitment plugs so a perfect fit is almost guaranteed. Since it is an in-ear type, it does provide some noise isolation, so it's good to use on the plane with your ipod or other music device.
I use mine at work every day and am quite pleased with this purchase.
great headphones for the price October 10, 2008 After messing around with cheaper in-the-ear buds, I finally found the CX300's from Sennheiser. I really don't think you can beat the sound for the price. I've owned these for about 2 months now and use them all the time. The only downside I know of is that they transmit and bumps on the cord onto your ears, but I've never found a pair of in-the-ear headphones that don't. I recently used these on an airplane and wasn't expecting much in the line of noise reduction since they aren't active noise reduction. I was blown away at how much of the jet engine noise they did remove -- and that was without the sound on. Once I turned the music on, I couldn't tell I was on an airplane!
These bass is great, the treble is smooth enough -- sometimes the 's' sound is a little tinny, but overall, I'd recommend these for portable use.
Great Headphones October 9, 2008 I've had these headphones for about 10 months now and they're just starting to break on me. They're the best headphones I've ever bought, and definitely the longest lasting. I used to buy horrible $5.00 headphones from Target that would last me about two weeks.
The Sennheiser earbuds really showed me that headphones should be an investment in themselves. $5.00 every two weeks adds up to about $120 a year. These were about $40 and lasted me 10 months. Sure, the right side of the headphones don't work anymore, but I'm very rough with my headphones.
The durability of these things is amazing. I've stuck them in my pocket, forced them apart when tangled and thrown them around and the quality of the sound and fit didn't even change. The headphones have a nice fit, as well. I have a bigger ear hole in my left than my right, so the interchangeable covers was a huge help.
Bass response is amazing, even though they're not open-air headphones. I have a pair of Grado SR60's and the bass is comparable (which is saying a lot when talking about earbuds). The overall sound quality is good, as well. There's no detectable distortion in the mids - but the very high sounds - like excessive cymbal crashes and loud snares, will make poppy distortions.
The first complaint I had about these was that the wire was loud. Meaning, if you have the earbuds in and something touches the wire, you can hear a bouncing sound like steel cables on a suspension bridge. It's not a problem if the music's playing, but it's annoying in between songs. You get used to it after a while, though, and now I don't even notice it.
These are, again, the best headphones I've used. I'm thinking about buying another pair, but I'm not sure if I should limit myself to one pair of headphones. But, if you've never bought decent headphones before, you won't be disappointed.
mixed feelings October 9, 2008 Like how my title says, the way I feel about these earphones are both good and bad at the same time.
Let me start off with saying that I am 99% sure that I got the genuine pair directly sent by Amazon. How do I know this? these earphones has a great bass, at least compared to the generic ipod earphones, and I know (from reading various reviews about Sennheiser CX300-B, specially related with detecting the fake ones) that one of the biggest signs that this earphone can be fake is when it lacks a good bass.
Finally, before I say anything, I will concentrate on only sound quality. But I will say that in general, the material quality of these earphones seems to be good enough by most standards, but they are certainly not sturdy nor likely to be fall apart in 3 months.
So, let's start with the pros. It has a good bass. The sound is more "full" as in, it sound as if you were standing directly by a recording studio in recording progress. Just because of these "full" sound, anyone WILL easily feel the difference between an average earphone (generic ipod earphone), and a relatively cheap sound cancelling earphone (the cx 300, the one I am reviewing).
Now the bad part. The "full" sound is not necessarily a good thing: the sound is less clear than your average earphone. Perhaps this flaw is due to the sound canceling nature of the earphones (for example, close your ears with your hands, and you will hear some little noise which sounds like "stillness", AT THE SAME TIME feeling that your listening ear has less freedom). Either way, the sound you will hear is significantly less clear because your ear has been closed completely and it is distracting. The other problem is, when you touch the cord, you will hear the distracting sound. Just imagine: if you talk while you have your ears covered, you can hear yourself better and when you hit the microphone lightly, then you will hear its noise via speakers. The noises that I described are similar (maybe not as bad, but still, they are connected to your ears!) from what you will hear when your cords are hit lightly. Maybe my hearing is sensitive, but I really hate those distracting sounds.
In all, if you are looking for a good bass earphone with "full"(3D-ish) sound, while you are not planning to move much when using the earphone, AND can tolerate the "stillness" sound when you cover your ears completely, THEN I would fully recommend these earphones.
But if you are like me, someone who likes to listen music at night (when everything is more quiet, and all the distracting sounds are more noticeble) at low volume, and clear sound is more important than bass, then I cannot possibly recommend these earphones.
Sit very still October 5, 2008 I just bought a pair of CX300's, at least in part as a result of the reviews I read here. I can't fault the sound, both Billy Holiday and Luciano Pavarotti sound like champs on my Cowon D2. Outside noise is efectively canceled, however the cord, which is too short, conducts all air disturbances in a most distressing way. So if you are planning to go running or to the gym with your mp3 player, think about getting some other brand with less sensitivity. I am listening now to the Nat King Cole Trio as I write, I am sitting very quietly and they sound great.
