Phoenix Gold Volume Control September 7, 2008 The device was received promptly and was exactly as described. I'm very pleased with the supplier.
Works but pain to install August 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ok this thing works but man it took me forever to get it installed - my wall box just could barely fit this thing. Also, before you connect all the speaker wires, disconnect the plugs and screw in the wires that way. They snap in and out, making it MUCH easier. Make sure they are tight also, because when you fit everything into the wall box you will need all the space you can get..and you do not want a wire to slip out after you get everything screwed down (because then you have to go back in..lol). Also the outside face plate is smaller than I thought it would be, it looks ok since I do not have any other plates next to it but if I had a standard light switch or something it might look funny. I also had to super glue the turn nob because it would easily fall off. But it works, and it was cheap - so I gave it 3 stars.
Good product, works well July 18, 2008 I was looking for some device that would help me control my speakers volume at certain area of the house without having to walk to where the amplifier is. The Phoenix Gold VMT-100 works fine, the installation was easy (I did it myself)and it's small size doesn't bother at all. It was not exactly was I was expecting since the maximum volume it delivers is less than the one the speakers had before; it just let me turn the volume a little down, but I lost some output. I'm trying some other type of connections to see if it helps and I'm sure it will do it.
Tips for installing VMT-100 May 10, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The tips below were suggested by a professional electrician and worked very well to give me a good looking installation.
As other reviewers mention, it is difficult to fit the wiring into a standard (even a deep type) old work wall box. I found it easy to cut off the rear two-thirds of the box with a hack saw, and use only the front portion as a frame. I also needed to file down the box reinforcement ribs to accommodate the height of the VMT-100.
One reviewer commented on the problem of the box cover plate not fitting flush to the wall over the VMT-100 mounting strap. I successfully compensated for this by [CAREFULLY-DON'T OVERDO] gouging out about 1/8 inch depth of the drywall behind the box tabs, so as to recess the front face of the box in the wall. Another helpful technique was to use a nipper tool to clip away the ears on the mounting strap and to narrow its neck portions, which makes the strap fit more flush against the junction box. Regarding the difficulty of working 16-gauge wire into the connectors, I also found that stranded wire did not hold well, but that by first soldering the ends of each wire, the connections to the volume control became much more reliable.
Great unit September 1, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This control works well and has a good feel to the volume control. There are small, smooth clicks at each setting. I found some others which have a harder feel and rougher feel when adjusting the volume. Price was great as well.
